At the meeting point of Australia’s Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, laid-back Brisbane is spread around the meandering river running through it. The river’s artsy South Bank is home to Australia’s largest modern art gallery, tranquil gardens and an artificial beach. Just across the river is the towering skyline of Brisbane's central business district, the location of many hotels in central Brisbane.
Nearby are the botanic gardens and Queen Street Mall, the most popular Brisbane shopping spot. There are more shopping centers all over the city, and the out-of-town malls include one in the Indooroopilly suburb by the foothills of Mount Coot-tha.
This green hill offers fabulous city views and has a planetarium, nature reserve and yet more botanic gardens. In Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to the south, you can hug one of the lovable animals, while Australia Zoo – Steve Irwin’s legacy – is a good day trip.
Brisbane is a very leafy city and one of its parks, Wickham Park, contains the Old Windmill, Brisbane’s oldest building. To the northeast, the Fortitude Valley suburb is known for its vibrant music scene and Chinatown. Across the river in Woolloongabba is The Gabba or Brisbane Cricket Ground, and nearby is the bohemian West End district.
Booking.com has plenty of downtown hotels, and other accommodations near Brisbane Airport in a northeastern coastal suburb.
We were expecting to be closer to the Beaches. The river which everything is based off is dirty and not attractive. City is nice just like Sydney City. But the houses in most of the suburbs are not nice.
I personally did not like Brisbane, Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast and was expecting more. Wouldn't live there but a nice holiday place.

Love being able to drive into the hilly mountain areas...
Love being able to drive into the hilly mountain areas surrounding ie Glass Mountains, Mt Cootha, Botanical Gardens etc. Great places all along the Brisbane river to walk by and eat/drink at. Lots of touristy things to do.

What really stood out about the Brisbane CBD is how clean it...
What really stood out about the Brisbane CBD is how clean it is! They take really good care of their heritage buildings!
Beautiful old pubs, check out the Pig & Whistle still has the old beautiful bathrooms.
Southbank wow amazing!
Man made beach, amazing variety of places to eat.
Queen st shopping, has every store you need & didn’t know you need.
Don’t need to leave the CBD if after a short stay as plenty to see & do.
Free river ferry that loops the river & stops at key points.
The channel 7 wheel is also a fun experience & wel priced.
Free museum!
If you only staying a few days l wouldn’t bother with a hire car as city driving not the best experience.
Definitely worth a visit!

My partner and I stayed for one night to enjoy the Brisbane...
My partner and I stayed for one night to enjoy the Brisbane River City Cruise. The location was perfect, as it was only a short walk to our departure point being the Cultural Centre Pontoon and also the Museum. Upon checking in, we were given a room key, and when opening our door , we discovered that the room was occupied .We had been given someone elses room key. We were shocked as this is a very severe breach of security. We went back down to the reception area , and told the receptionist. He very insincerely said "apologies" and blamed another work colleague for placing the key on the wrong hook. When we finally got our room key the room was clean enough except for the curtains in the main bedroom , they looked filthy like someone had ejaculated body fluids on the curtain, the power point and lamp didn't work on my partners side and he needed to plug in his Cpap machine, thankfully the cord was long enough to reach over to my side of the power point. The pillows were not comfortable or firm enough and we required more pillows. On a positive note ,the free parking was good.

Brisbane is a lovely smaller city but has much to offer.
Brisbane is a lovely smaller city but has much to offer. The South Brisbane area houses QPAC, a wonderful performing arts centre that has a huge variety of show’s & performances on offer at any given time. There is also GOMA, the Gallery of Modern Art, which also has fabulous exhibitions.
Adjacent to Sth Brisbane is the Southbank area. Here there is a great range of eating houses as well as the “Eye”, & a lagoon pool area for swimming.
There are Citycat ferries that travel up & down the Brisbane river allowing you to travel around with ease, as well as buses & trains.
Accommodation options are extensive, catering for backpackers to 6 star, all located within walking distance of the city & surrounds.
Small hotel on Kangaroo Point, across the river from Brisbane's CBD (downtown). We had a nice 2-night stay. Very clean. Comfortable bed. Spacious room with full size fridge and cooking facilities. Chris at the front desk is very helpful. We recommend taking the short 2-3 minute walk eastward (turn right as you leave the hotel, then left at the river) to Medley Cafe for a lovely breakfast; the cafe is set amongst trees and overlooks the river.
The rooms are 4 star - newly renovated, modern, new aircon units, lovely bathrooms, comfy beds, useful kitchenette. We were met at reception by a very friendly smiling fellow. There is a free car park and the location is perfect for enjoying Victoria Park or driving into the CBD or Southbank. We have stayed in many more expensive CBD apartments (paying $40/day to park) but no more...this will be our 'go-to' now!
A quality hotel for the price of a motel. Excellent location just a stroll to the river. Well appointed room with full-size bath and large shower. Beautiful view of the city skyline and very comfortable bed. The only hotel I know of right on the edge of the CBD with FREE secure parking. Will absolutely be staying again the next time I am in Brisbane.
Location was excellent - easy 10 minute walk to the city, but just on the outskirts that you wouldn't get the noise and bustle of the CBD. Across the road from The Barracks, and cute little restaurants and bars. The hotel itself is very luxe with mood lighting and an incredibly comfortable bed. Staff were also super helpful!
The Location of this hotel, in my opinion, is the best in Brisbane if you are looking for a night or two in the city. It is in the heart of Howard Smith Wharf and very close to the night spots of Brisbane. A short scooter ride will get you to Southbank. The staff were very friendly and the room was comfortable.
Excellent location if going to QPAC. Awesome restaurants and pubs close by - LOVE Southbank Beer Garden and The Pig & Whistle. Beautiful walk across Victoria Bridge over to Brisbane CBD - beautiful breakfast at The Pancake Manor, be sure to book though! The view of the river and city was spectacular.
It is only a 30 minute walk along the river to the City, South Bank or Brisbane's West.
The apartments were a good size, equipped with washing machine and dryer - neat and tidy.
There are also quite a few cafes and restaurants nearby - shout out to the bunker for best coffee.
Close to the Northshore Eat Street was a bonus, plus Fortitude Valley, Brisbane CBD and Southbank were nearby as well. Had loads of places to go within a short distance of driving.
Room was awesome for the price, comfortable bed, aircon was a major plus
Excellent location within walking distance of the CBD, Southbank, buses, trains, and everything else you need. A very spacious apartment for a one bedroom apartment and very clean. Much more than we expected when we made the booking.
We like nothing in this hotel. The space inside the apartments were good but rooms were full of dust. We have stayed in the hotel for 3 nights but they haven't even provided us at least toilet papers for the next two days.
Location great, supermarkets nearby, close to train, plenty of decent food and beverage options nearby, within walking distance of CBD, close to Southbank, Convention Centre, Museum etc, major bonus - free parking
The Apartment hotel was well located within walking distance to CBD. The apartments were spacious clean and more than comfortable to say the least. I highly recommend the Republic Apartment Hotel.
Very cool & modern hotel in the CBD overlooking the river and Southbank. Great attention to detail in room fitout. Certainly more interesting & fun than its muted contemporaries. Highly recommend.
The location is great. The hotel is located in the middle of CBD. The bed is comfy. The cleanliness is great. The hotel provides standard facilities. Staff are helpful.
This property is located right in the heart of Brisbane and an easy walk not only to CBD meetings but also Southbank, a great entertainment/restaurant district.
