A great (very windy) city at the end of the world.
A great (very windy) city at the end of the world. Close to breathtaking scenery (Tierra del Fuego, Torres del Paine) and historical sites. The city felt secure. The fish market offers amazing good value dishes (no vegan options:(). There are good walks close to the city (a national park 15 minutes by car). Punta Arenas is easy to navigate on foot if the weather permits - the wind can bowl you over!!!

Punta Arenas is a nice town.
Punta Arenas is a nice town. But don't expect too much of it. It has really fantastic, great coffee places. And very good restaurants, actually it is amazing that there are so many nice restaurants and so many great coffee shops in such a small town. Apart from that, it is a small town. Don't get me wrong: it is the *town* to be if you want to be at the Strait of Magellans!

Punta Arenas had more to do than I expected!
Punta Arenas had more to do than I expected! I had heard from others that it was a sleepy residential town, but we enjoyed walking along Playa Colon, walking up to Mirador Cerro de la Cruz, shopping for handmade gifts at the Municipal Artesanal Market, petting the community dogs at the Plaza de Armas, touring Cerveceria Austral (reservations needed in advance), going on one of the penguin and sea lion tours, and eating authentic classic Chilean food at La Marmita restaurant. If we had more time, we would've visited some of the nearby museums to learn more about Magellan's sail through the strait. We loved that Ubers were quick and plentiful but that the town was very walkable just about anywhere.

The center of town is quite a distance from the airport.
The center of town is quite a distance from the airport. Punta Arenas is good for a jumping off point to explore Patagonia. For birders, there is a great e-Bird hot spot just out of town towards the airport.

It is an amazing place to visit.
It is an amazing place to visit. There are so many things to do, especially if you compare it with the homologous city in Argentina, Ushuaia. I was from Sunday to Friday, and it was not enough to do more trekkings, namely the Glaciar or around the Strait of Magallanes. I highly recommend staying in Punta Arenas for around two weeks and programme as many trips as possible before. I was not able to do the trip to Puerto Williams, because it required 30 hours on a ship. There are only ideas in my opinion.

Punta Arenas is a wonderful town.
Punta Arenas is a wonderful town. It is full of history and is very safe and welcoming to tourists. It is very windy, so wrap up warm, but anyone goin g to southern Chile should pay it a visit (and if you are not going to southern Chile, why not? It is amazing and you should book a visit immediately).
We stayed at host patagonia for 2 nights. The host Fabian is a great person. The facilities are not fancy but equipped with what travelers need. Clean and well maintained. Pretty good speed of wifi. It says that breakfast is not included. But in fact we are free to enjoy everything in the kitchen; eggs, bread, fruits, mineral water, etc.
It seems like we are staying at our cousins in Punta Arenas. Thank you Fabian. You made our stay in PA wonderful.
The room, as well as the hotel lobby, were comfortable and clean. The bed especially was nice and comfortable. Water pressure in the shower was excellent and the water got hot very quickly (very important in the cool climate of Chilean Patagonia). The location was excellent, but, then again, the tourist core of Punta Arenas is not that big, so all of the hotels scattered around the downtown have excellent locations.
Nice private room and bathroom has hot water! The kitchen is big enough and they provide free coffee/tea. It is not a hotel or hostel, but literally a little house for different people so take that into account. The owner is also really nice, he even let me stay a little longer for the day and drove me to the harbour when it was time to go. He also wanted to give me a tour of Punta Arenas, very nice guy.
Can we give this apartment a 10+++? Meticulously clean, on a quiet street near the beach, close to everything. The most comfortable bed I’ve slept on in Chile (and none were terrible!) The kitchen is well-equipped and pristine. Maria Inès, our host, welcomed us like family and it was hard to say goodbye. Don’t know how soon we will be back to « La fin de la Ruta » but we would definitely stay again.
The facility has all you need, including two bedrooms, dining room. full kitchen, and a shower. All very clean, everything works. There is a lot of space, so we can easily sort out all our gear before going to Torres del Paine park. The view from the main bedroom window down on Punta Arenas and the Straight of Magellan is great. The mirador Cerro de la Cruz is just 2 minutes away.
Location is key. It’s right below the Punta Arenas City lookout. Our room was super clean and the blackout curtains worked wonderfully to allow us to rest (only 4-6 hours of dark during the summer!!). The restaurant is top notch as well. We went to another restaurant (La Marmita) on a different day and the food was nothing compared to the La Yegua Loca Restaurant.
I enjoyed my stay at Apart Hotel Quillango, notably for its convenient location near downtown. My apartment was clean and spacious, providing a comfortable retreat. The staff was friendly and helpful, enhancing my overall experience. It's a good choice for a practical and pleasant stay.
Great location, close to the mirador viewpoint, very warm and cozy space with free simple breakfast and 2 cute dogs! We had a lovely room with a view overlooking Punta Arenas which was a beautiful surprise, and a bathroom across the hallway that was private only for us. 100% recommend!
Lovely bedroom with access to very clean communal kitchen. English speaking hosts, promptly responded to emails, arranged mid night taxi pick up service for us from Punta Arenas airport. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts.
I was traveling solo and landed at 2am. They met me at the airport and I felt very safe traveling to the hotel. On arrival, I was fully informed of my room and amenities. The rooms so comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic!
cozy and quiet hostal with extremely friendly and helpful owner. the place is super clean and very well taken care of, probably the best place I stayed during my travels in Chile. the breakfast is absolutely delicious!
Beautiful hotel in one of Punta Arenas historic palaces in the town centre. The room had recently been refurbished, was very comfortable and tastefully decorated.
Staff was helpful. Food was good.

Comfy typical Chilean hotel. Excellent location, and the folks who run it are very friendly and helpful, even at odd hours. Good place to spend a couple of days. Bring cash to pay with (CLP / USD / EUR).
The hotel with the best location in Punta Arenas. Lobby and public areas were recently renovated by Enrique Concha. Fantastic sculptures by local artist Paola Vezzani. Staff is friendly and efficient.
