It is a great place to get ferries to Morocco or to get the shuttle to Tarifa to do the same.
I have been before and found it to be a pleasant small town with a good patisserie/bakery that had Moroccan foods (briouwats, mini pastilla, etc).
The reason for the 'average' rating of the town stems from the fact that the place I booked was unhelpful and would not allow me to access the property at midnight even though I had paid in advance. As a result I was stranded and had to wander about at night, sleep on a too short stone bench and cat nap until the FRS ticket offices opened.
Algeciras is reasonably easy to navigate on foot. There are some cafés by the central market that open early for the traders. There is also a Carrefour express in the area between the train Station and the port with a full selection of goods.
I cannot rate 'Conv3nient R00ms - F3rry, Tr@in & Bus $tation' as I was not allowed entry to the property at midnight (late trains, missed connections) having paid for in advance my room. Unfortunately the proprietor was not helpful and I was left wandering the streets all night as not other hostals were open. A cold night with a very short stone bench! (Perhaps this is a rating?) I would avoid this place on my next visit and look for a better rated (more expensive hostal/hotel.
I would love to return yet again to Algeciras under better conditions and have an actual 'holiday there, rather than using it merely as a travel interchange. The town looks lovely and no doubt has things to offer away from the mildly salubrious Tran Station/Port area.

Gibraltar can not be reached by train, and one needs to stay a night somewhere to explore Gibraltar. Algeciras is ideal for this stay, and if you are here, then spend some hours for walking Algeciras,

After being in Marocco for 2 months, it felt like I was still in Marocco, but at the bus station, you can get a bus ticket to Madrid for €21.78, it's a 9 hr bus ride and only makes a 30 min stop, but it was worth it, didn't like Algeciras, but the stay at the Hostel was brilliant, only thing the property needs to do is, undated on how you enter the property.

A much more authentic experience of a Spanish small city/town. Less busy than most other locations in this area and we loved it. We could easily have stayed a week. Very good tuna combo plate at Maridaje.

We weren't intending to stay here but had an extra day due to the ferry cancellation. The centre was small enough to walk round and was interesting enough without having anything really noteworthy.

a really nice city, they are a lot of options to eat Typical food there, i ate Tapas and lot of ham, to get around you can simply walk, take a taxi or just use the public transport. we liked going out and have a few drinks wich was not a problem because all the options that are around the city.
There is a lot of history and old-world charm in this hotel. Staying in this hotel gave you a sense of what the world was like in the turn of the century, and much of the furnishings date back to the days of the Titanic. The hotel had a British charm, and sometimes we felt like we were in a ghost hotel, and that was actually very cool. Our favorite person was the barkeeper named David he made us feel at home and went out of his way for anything we needed.
If you're staying in Algeciras, this is one of your best options. Great, central location close to the city center, a shopping mall, a supermarket, etc. Very modern room with a safe, great view of the harbor, and a nice bathtub. The price was more than fair too. The staff are friendly and helpful. Overall, a great value and an excellent hotel. I would definitely stay there again.
Good for its money. We had to stay in Algeciras for one night since we wanted to visit Ceuta the next day, location is close to bus station and the port. Had AC for heating so that wad a plus. Keep in mind, that is an apartment, so no check in desk whatsoever, host was great in communication, we had no trouble checking in online and receiving all necessary info.
Very comfortable room, hotel in quiet area.
Local on duty police drink coffee outside front door so provide excellent security for my motorbike parked there as well as 24 hiur manned reception.
Hotel ideally located for the ferry terminal and an Excellent tapas restaurant close buy.
The hotel is located at the beach looking at Gibraltar and the port. The room had an window to an internal courtyard. The bathroom had no window, but was clean and seemed new, except the light wasnt working properly.
Friendly staff, we arrived late, they left us keys in a key box.
Brilliant hosts. Lovely family run place. Host go above and beyond to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. Very welcoming on arrival and throughout my stay. Restaurants, markets, shops, port and beaches close by. Would definitely stay again when in Algeciras. Thank you hosts.
Overall an excellent hotel with some history and great grounds. In grand hotel fashion actually had centeral lobby, in house -resturant and bar, billards and reading rooms, at least one pool and extenstive patios and terraces, etc. Had excellent breakfast bar setup.
This hotel is always so clean and the rooms are brighting. I like the comfort, the staff, the cleanliness of this place and the size of the room is impressive. For me maybe is the tenth time being there and I got never disappointed. Thanks!
Recommend eating in the hotel restaurant. Food was exceptional as was the service, a highlight of our stay. Our room was large with access to the deck with views of Gibraltar as well as of Ceuta and Tangiers.
A hotel about three kilometres from the city centre. Good and kind treatment from the employees. . It is a beautiful cafeteria with an Andalusian style. Great coffee. Greetings to all employees.
For us the location was great because we had to take the boat and we needed to be close to the port. The staff was friendly and helpful. There was also easy parking for free next to the hotel.
The room was spacious and comfortable. The location was Perfect For taking the bus as well as the ferry. A cab only a few steps away from the hotel. Breakfast was great. We would book again.
Small intimate hotel, including breakfast.
Fabulous location outside Algercerias, sea views spectacular and views of Gibraltar and Morroco. Evening meal very good. (at extra cost).
This is an excellent budget hotel in the center of Algeciras. Rosa and Jose, the owners, make you feel right at home. Friendly service. And a very comfortable bed.
