The location is in the old town, which is undergoing gentrification, so there are some pretty run down buildings. However, it was a great location and the area is safe.

The Hotel had a very refined ambience. I believe it stands on an ancient site that was once used for the storage of grain during times of Siege. There were Museum quality artifacts everywhere and I don't think they were reproductions. My room was spacious and comfortable. I had two balconies one for each window. Very handy for my tendency to do some sink laundry and hang it out to dry. Good mini fridge with two bottles of water per day. Breakfast was pretty good and the cappuccini were delicious. It was very close to almost everything I wanted to see in the Centro Storico and elsewhere. They gave me a good restaurant recommendation. The front desk clerk when I checked in was especially impressive but the entire staff was good to great. Very good elevator. I didn't get to try the bar but it looked well appointed. The little lounge area in the foyer of the entrance was comfortable and well decorated.

An interesting city that we were using for a stop off point from Lecce. The city is by the water with an old castle and a fishing industry. There is also a steel mill and a lot of cargo ships in the bay. There is an old town but it is mostly abandon from the 1970’s so doesn’t compare at all to old towns in other Italian cities. Work underway to rejuvenate the old town and waterfront but seems to be very slow and will take 10-20 years. We caught the train to Taranto from Brindisi but found it difficult to get one to Amalfi so ended up catching a bus (which worked well). In summary, if your in the area spend a couple of days but don’t plan a special trip to Taranto.

Having visited the lagoon and port area there is the ancient city to see, finally the must is the archeological museum. The marked is down-town, the fishermen do their job and you will find all you need near-by. With the 5-day abonnement of the railway there is an alternative to the car-rental.

Restaurants seem to be closed on Mondays.
Restaurants seem to be closed on Mondays. The old town is not really what you would expect. Almost no bars, restaurants or coffee shops.
Better to stroll along the newer parts of the city. Plenty of shops and places for an espresso or dinner. If you have a car: drive south along the coast (30-60 minutes) and you will find plenty of beaches with white sand and excellent clear water to swim and play in....

For me Taranto is the best city in Puglia, it has absolutely everything, city on 2 seas (Citta dei due mare) city life and beach life combined. It has the most beautiful castle, and Citta Vecchia where the cathedral San Cataldo has to be seen to be believed. Lots of beautiful churches, a museum full of wonderful gold and antiques. Always a buzz in the city with lots to do, and you are so close to stunning beaches too, a short drive away. You also have to taste a Spritz, and a panzerotto (watch though you don't burn your mouth)

It was an interesting city for one time visit.
It was an interesting city for one time visit. The waitresses were rude in the Irish pub, another Italian restaurant was told that all table are reserved in spite of the place was absolutely empty. There weren't bars except for one on the seaside boulevard but that was good. To find parkplace is a big challenge but we were lucky and we always found which generally took 5-10 minuits.
The hotel is situated at an excellent place, between the old and the new part of the town. It's well connected by several bus lines to the train and bus station and the port. The sights and amenities are all close by, at the walking distance. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, they even allowed us to check in earlier as we arrived before scheduled time. The breakfast was OK and decent. It was quiet at night so we had no trouble sleeping. Everything was as in the photos.
Staff were absolutely brilliant and so helpful and knowledgable, especially the ones we dealt with the most, Favio and Francesca.
The room was really comfortable, not huge but with a large balcony overlooking the piazza. The breakfast was the nest we have had in Italia for many many years. And Taranto is wonderful city to explore, with the hotel placed perfectly for this. The archeology museum in Taranto is of the highest quality and awe-inspiring.
As soon as we set foot in this hotel we felt comfortable and welcomed. The staff members were exceptionally helpful and polite. This hotel was thoughtfully designed. They really paid attention to details and created a lovely hotel. They also offered a varied breakfast which highlighted the local recipes. We would definitely return there.
Palazzo Mata boutique hotel is a one-of-a kind boutique hotel located by the sea and offers very nice view on the sea side of Taranto. The ambiance of this hotel is what makes it worth visiting and charm at every turn.Lots of originality, Homey feel and thoughtful touches. In our opinion hotel staff is well trained and very kind.
The place was not expensive, and was very clean. Although we found some free parking spaces in front of the building, the private parking is a great feature and reassuring that your (rental) car wont be bumped into while parked (while walking in Taranto we noticed a lot of cars had bumps/marks)
Vincent is an amazing and super friendly host. The apartment was very nice and clean. Its in a historical old house, definitely a unique place and worth every penny. Vincent even stocked the fridge for us 🙏 great stay in Taranto overall! Definitely recommend.
One of the nicest rooms we have been in during our 3 week stay in the south of Italy. The room was 5 star as is the location. Taranto is not what you call a resort location but this sea view location close to the old city was exceptional for us.
Best location, room, the owner, price, comfort and breakfast as well. Made me feel happy and enriched my time in Taranto. The best experience i had on my 7 months travel in Italy. Makes me wanna come back and stay longer next time.
The apartment is in a central area of Taranto close to many great restaurants, shops and areas of interest. The apartment itself felt very comfortable, clean and roomy. I quickly settled in and felt at home here.
Very nice and central located hotel.
The staff are super friendly. The breakfast is very nice and the evening restaurant is very good too.
I always enjoy my stay at Hotel Dolphino.
Beautiful and spacious apartment, all new furnitures, really top class! Welcome bubbles from the owner, very much appreciated! Perfect location in downtown Taranto.
Carmen, the host was very supportive. The apartment in excellent condition, even better than in the photos. Location is perfect. I will do! Recommend it.
