Lavender Garden Hotel, hotel in Tsavo

Located in Tsavo, 26 miles from Voi Railway Station, Lavender Garden Hotel provides accommodations with a shared lounge, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant.

It's like a simple hotel in the mountains, nothing flashy but there's all you need plus friendly staff, a lovely climate with green all around. You get a filling meal in the restaurant and a decent breakfast with fruit and eggs and tea. Wundanyi is a green oasis and a nice break say from the heat of the coast.

Game tours were my favorite activities at Tsavo.

Game tours were my favorite activities at Tsavo. We were booked on full board at Salt Lick Resort and I can confirm that the food was delicious. It is very easy to go around Tsavo. I drove around myself, though I was given a guide for the game tours.

Tsavo ouest much better than east ,more animals, more different landscapes, good temperatures whereas east is bare and hot Bad surprise at taita hills you have to pay a park fee just to be at the hotel whose price is higher than indicated by booking. Com 4×4 car necessary, and openroofed

Very rewarding park, One of my favorites in Kenya, have visited a number of parks. Huge number of elephants, more than Amboseli, but don't miss Amboseli! Great scenery. Would suggest adding a day to you itinerary, so you don't regret it!

The bush/tree-covered huge surface of Tsavo would make wildlife more difficult to spot, but would add to the pleasure of the "hunt". Neverthelss, in a little less than two days, we saw enough of the famous elephants, buffalos, giraffes and other herbivorous beauties plus two leppards and a cheetah. But the geography of the place compensates for any other inconvenience. In my view, this is the most eye-pleasing park, with its incredible variety of rocks, trees, bushes, crystal-clear springs, lava fields and ridges, volcanic cones and pure savanah fields. The Mzima springs and the outlooks highly recommended.

Great location as you were right by a watering hole for the animals, so breakfast and evening meals were with close views of Elephants and Zebra etc., coming down for water. The staff were very friendly and made us feel really welcome. The selection of food for both breakfast and evening meal was varied and well prepared, and certainly didn't go hungry. Lunchtime they offer a packed lunch if you are intending to stay out all day and you can choose what you would like, or they also put on a nice buffet if staying at the camp. There is a small pool, but we didn't use this as we were out all day. The rooms were basic, but completely adequate for a safari trip and equipped with standing fan, mosquito nets and standard toiletries. The housekeeping staff came in every day to change the towels and make the beds. All in all I would definitely recommend this accommodation for a short stay safari trip.

Tsavo East is huge although you cannot drive north of the Galana river, its closed to the public. In the dry season, alot of animals stay close to either the Galana river or the Aruba dam area, we lost count how many elephants we saw. I recommend a visit North West to Mudanda Rock, its a huge 1.5km long 50m high solid rock dating over 4 billion years old, almost as old as this planet. There is a large watering hole twice the size of a football pitch next to the rock and from the top of the rock we counted 20 elephants in three herds coming in to drink between 1pm and 1.30pm. There are leopards nearby apparently but its uncommon to see them in daylight. Caution - Normally, the long rain comes in late March for three months or so. They are late this year but torrential rain can make some of the tracks impassable and flash floods can occur even when the weather is fine in the local area due to rain from far away.
