Nizwa is a lovely city with lots to see however it is also central to many other towns and sights within easy drives. The highlight for me is the Friday goat market and I would recommend this to anyone visiting Nizwa.

Nizwa is a beautiful little town you need to stop by if you are venturing around in Oman. The Nizwa fort is a must. I learned a lot about the country and Nizwa by walking around and seeing the exhibition and everything else. Also in Nizwa, you have a small and cute souq. I found the prices in Nizwa lower than in Muscat, especially the saffron. If you plan on going to Muscat after Nizwa, I would also recommend buying a scarf there. I also loved the fruit market where I got to taste Halwa in different styles (something I wouldn't have dared try at a restaurant) and just the smells and atmosphere were incredible.

True old walled city unlike any other in the Gulf.
True old walled city unlike any other in the Gulf. Citadel is worth it and well preserved. Old souks are also real. It is a nice hub to visit the area and fort around it in Hamra, Bahla and even to go to Jabal Akhdar. strongly recommend one of the charming hotels inside the old city. Problem with Niza (like much of Oman) is that outside of nature activities, there is not much to do. no good restaurants, festivals, concerts, or places to go out to.

Very nice city, souq, castle, fort and mosque all close one to each other, so really convenient to visit them together. A lot of restaurants, bars and amenities. Qaboos mosque 10mins far from city center, it needs a car to be reached.

people ale super nice. they were talking to us, waving, asking if we are happy here and wishing us good stay. beautiful old town, gorgeous old buildings. amazing and not so priced food. in central souq prices are high, but if you go to eastern souq you can meet nice people and buy good things in great prices! there’s drinkable water on the streets for free. lots of plants in whole city. unlike many big cities, Nizwa is very walkable, you don’t need a car or taxi to explore it. highly recommended:)

Nizwa is a small yet beautiful town located at an hour and a half drive from Muscat. Drive from Muscat to Nizwa and back has breathtaking views especially during winters and people are friendly.
Trip to Nizwa Souq is a must and drive around the city is enjoyable too. Souq offers the opportunity to experience the culture and heritage of Oman and Antique shops are amazing.
For those going to Jebel Akhdar, its just 35 - 40 kms from Nizwa, depending on which part of the town you are in.
It can be just a day trip for those travelling from Muscat or a weekend retreat if someone is looking for a small break.
Overall really worth a visit.
After traveling a month in Oman and staying at several dirty, worn, overpriced hotels, Nima Guesthouse was a welcome change. We loved our double room at the back of the property. Clean, comfortable, and QUIET (the best sleep I had in weeks). The manager, Houssain (and his lovely girlfriend, Nazanin), and the staff are warm and welcoming. We made good use of the well stocked kitchen to make our own meals. Nice outdoor terrace to hang out and meet other travelers. Great central location.
Super kind and helpful owners, made us feel very welcome and accommodated us staying longer last minute. We stayed the third night at their sister hotel, the Omani Guest house, which is a few minutes down the road. We actually preferred it there, it is set back from the road so is a little more peaceful, and has a small garden with an aviary. Get their breakfast, the tea flavored with thyme is amazingly delicious. Highly recommend staying with these guys in Nizwa.
We were at Jebel Akhdar during the EID break and hotels were fully booked. The nearest and the most convenient hotel we found was Ewann. The property is located in a place where nothing much is available which in fact makes it more convenient because it was so accessible. Food was not available but talabat delivered our orders. We spent only one night, so it wouldn’t do justice giving feedback about the property, but the one night we spent, I guess went well.
Hotel with a good value for money. Great location only 5 minutes walk from Nizwa fort entrance with many shops, restaurants and markets around. Room was very clean with comfortable bed . Breakfast was good with traditional Omani food. What makes this hotel so special is the owner of the place that received me and was very helpful to give all the information necessary to visit the area. Thank you for trying to make me home!
The hotel is located in the heart of the old city. Convenient large hotel parking. Hotel in a restored old building. Beautiful authentic interiors, delicious smell, all amenities. Cool terrace on the roof overlooking the city. Near restaurants, coffee shops, fort, market. Friendly helpful staff. The people in the city are kind and inquisitive. Felt at home. Thanks Nizwa! Thanks Oman!
Omani Guest House was the perfect choice for exploring beautiful Nizwa. Ali, the host, was born in the home and lovingly renovated it into a guest house 6 years ago. It’s absolutely stunning, but what’s even more impressive is the hospitality of Ali and the rest of the staff. The guest house is sparkling clean and perfectly located right down the street from the Nizwa fort and the Souqs.
The staff and manager were very friendly and shared tips and useful information for exploring the area and the rest of Oman. There were few patrons the day we stayed but the hotel still arranged a great breakfast. Excellent management. Our stay was very smooth with our 3 young children. Highly recommend this hotel for families or anyone who needs a place to stay in Nizwa.
Richland House feels like a hidden oasis located in the middle of Nizwa. When the gate opens, you will immediately feel at ease. Our host was very welcoming and made us feel at home! We stayed for two nights which was a welcoming rest during our roadtrip through Oman and enough time to explore all that Nizwa has to offer. Highly recommended!
Very well situated hotel near Nizwa Souq and Fort. Very traditional and relaxing rooms, nice staff. There is a very pleasant "Anat Coffee" just next door. As there is a quite limited number of restaurants in a walking distance, the possibility to order your dinner from Al Bormah Restaurant and eat it in pleasant hotel garden is an advantage.
Absolutely lovely hotel right in the heart of Nizwa with a view of the fort. Just a few minutes' walk to the souk and the bustling goat market nearby. The rooms are incredibly spacious and equipped with everything you need. The staff is exceptionally kind and helpful. Overall, a fantastic place to stay to explore Nizwa on foot.
The location of the hotel is an advantage to the tourist. It’s just 5 minutes from Nizwa fort and Nizwa transitional market. The room is very wide and comfortable with a full size bed in the bedroom, setting area in the living room and a kitchenette. My family enjoyed the stay.
Unique accommodation right in the center of Nizwa. Beautiful rooms, great food and cosy rooftop breakfast/dinner area. Big parking lot at the front of the hotel but use the booking.com location as google maps will send you through narrow streets to the wrong side of the hotel.
The rooftop terrace was my personal dream. So peaceful, view over Nizwa included. Also the ard for the breakfast was nice - and the location in the heart of Nizwa old town was superb. Bed was comfy and WIFI working. Very cozy place and real Omani ambiance.
We really liked the ambience of the whole place as the hotel is a refurbished traditional Omani house. Also, the pool was in great condition and allowed us to cool down from the hot weather. Finally, the breakfast was extensive and delicious.
Easy to find and comfortable hotel. Modern interior and nice staff. Pool was good. loads of free parking. very near to a hypermarket and shopping mall. We stayed here to explore Nizwa and then continue our travels to the mountains.
Very good location in the centre of the old town of Nizwa. Friendly and helpfull staff. The restaurant accross the road has variable reviews but as far as I am concerned the food was good.
