Chalet Karaka was excellent accommodation in a lovely secluded spot next to a bubbling stream. The chalet had nice decor and furniture and included a comfortable bed and a quirky shower/bathroom. We really appreciated the guest folder with lots of information about the region and places to visit and eat. Takaka is only a five minute drive away with lots of quirky craft and clothes shops and a wide variety of places to eat. The coast and the northern part of the Abel Tasman NP are all relatively close. Our time in the chalet was quiet and relaxing and we felt we had great value for money.

Warm, welcoming and friendly staff, who went out of their way to make our stay exceptional. Beautiful restored and maintained historic building, including great wooden features, and interesting collection of all sorts pictures and objects, nicely displayed. Our spacious on-suite downstairs front room had a fireplace, generous supply of wood, comfortable chairs and bed. The fire was lit for us every evening. Excellent, generous and healthy breakfast, including great fruit salad and local eggs. Personal use of the kitchen, including fridge space, was encouraged. There is also a TV room, containing a variety of board games (we didn't use it on this occasion). Great information folder on the history of the house, and local knowledge about places of interest in Golden Bay. We could park right in front of the house. Overall a great base to explore Golden Bay in various directions.

The Sheep theme throughout the rooms. It just had a personal touch. Mike and Debbie went out of their way to make us feel welcome. It really helped us that we could get a load of washing done too.

The House Truck itself is wonderfully quirky with lots of interessting details and features - especially the outdoor hottub. We spend an entire evening stargazing in it. Nat and Grant are great hosts. The breakfast was fabulous and we got lots of helpful information. In combination with the location in what felt like the middle of nowhere, it truly was like a whole nother world.
A beautiful peaceful place. Well located for visiting Golden Bay, Abel Tasman and the fabulous Farewell Spit tour.
The waterfalls and springs are both beautiful.
If you visit on Mondays there are limited places to eat in the evening, so I would recommend making a reservation.

Very charming town.
Very charming town. Wish we could spend more time to explore shops and cafes. People are very kind and helpful.
We checked in late, but Mohua Motel manager found us units to stay and gave us a discount for the second night. In the morning, we were offered more clean towels in case we would like to go swimming.
We had dinner at Dangerous Kitchen. The food and the atmosphere are awesome.
My husband bought a new pair of shoes he loves at the fishing gear shop. The lady looked into the store room and found a right size for him.

Golden Bay has a lot to offer with quite a few boutique cafes in Takaka, lovely beaches, and interesting natural beauty including Te Waikoropupu Springs which has some of the world’s clearest water. Going further west through Collingwood to Farewell Spit a short walk to Wharariki Beach is well worth the effort.
A beautiful area well worth visiting.

It would have been very easy to fill in a couple of days around Takaka with visits to Farewell Spit, Anatoki Salmon Farm etc. Ample opportunities to eat and drink the local fare.
The drive into Golden Bay over the Takaka Hill also offered fantastic views and the chance to explore a limestone cave.
Waikoropupu Springs is a must do visit with great information provided.

The Golden Bay area of NZ has a very interesting past, both from a geographical point of view and a colonisation perspective (often directly linked). Gold, coal, iron ore, graphite, asbestos (!), paint and cement manufacture, all influenced the influx of early settlers and those seeking to make their fortunes!
Evidence of these past activities still remain making interesting exploration opportunities for visitors.
Natural phenomena such at the Waikoropupu Springs and Farewell Spit are certainly worth visiting, the latter being both an historic trip together with an opportunity to view present day wild life in the area.

I love everything about Takaka ..
Wholemeal Cafe and Soma have yummy food and great service .. the Roots bar is a nice place to hangout .. shops are cool ..The Grove is s must to visit... I come here every year ... have family here also
A rural location on a working farmlet, albeit the property is quite close to SH60. Takaka is ten minutes away. Very comfortable accommodation with a large well equipped lounge. The barbecue and deck gave us a couple of enjoyable evenings. The hosts were excellent as too were the breakfasts which largely consisted of produce from their farmlet. If you enjoy outdoor spa baths and swims, there's a real bonus outside. Thank you to Rene and Marianne.
We greatly enjoyed this peaceful, relaxing stay at Rene and Marianne’s farm. We recommend the homemade pizza offering if available, it was so delicious. We also very much enjoyed the farm tour. The hosts grow or raise everything they use in the delicious breakfasts on the farm!
The BnB is a great base to explore Tākaka and surrounding beaches. Roots Bar is a great casual spot for a drink and dinner on the Main Street, about ten minutes away.
Loved the motel & the floor to ceiling glass in the bedroom out to the peaceful garden. The motel was very quiet despite being located just off of the main road. Lisa, at reception was awesome & brought us a portable gas weber bbq to prepare our dinner. We liked everything about this motel, free washing machine for guests + it was very convenient & close to Takaka center. We'll definitely stay here again.
Eclectic little cluster of 4 chalets well maintained right outside of Tanaka (short 1 km walk on paved trail into town). Wonderful, welcoming owners who see after everything with great detail. Originally booked here because Kaiteriteri over the hill had nothing left, but would stay in Golden Bay again in heart beat. Nice drive to Totaranui on easy gravel road to take water taxi to Abel Tasman.
- clean
- studio had everything you needed for a short or even long stay!
- the bathroom is beautiful and whilst others have complained about it not being directly connected to the bedroom, it's literally two foot steps away and you are still in your own covered private area
- few minutes drive to takaka shops and restaurants whilst still feeling close to nature
Location up in the hills behind Takaka was perfect for what we wanted - days out and relaxing evenings with home cooked food. Kitchen was brilliantly equipped. The extension/sun room added space to the living area to enjoy the view and had the added protection from wind provided by the clear roller blinds on 3 sides. We enjoyed the outdoor bath and BBQ as well.
This may have been the most beautiful place we've ever stayed. The huge windows facing the water...allowing you to see the beauty from the bedroom, living room, dining room/kitchen were fabulous. The commitment to recycling was great. The outdoor tub....looking over the hills and water (with a glass of wine in hand)...was a piece of heaven.
This was a gorgeous and well executed set up in a lovely location. The hosts are super lovely, warm welcoming and funny. They have thought of all the details to make the stay comfortable and lovely. The location is so handy to Abel Tasman national park and the local township of Takaka. We loved everything about our stay.
It was a really lovely place, walking distance to takaka town centre unfortunately we had other plans for breakfast but we went and had a look and it looked really nice!! The owners were such lovely people!! Don’t have anything bad to say about our stay there. We will be coming back for sure.
Friendly host who was very welcoming. Room was comfortable and clean. Good location, a few mins drive from Takaka centre. Excellent breakfast with generous amounts. Added bonus of access to spa facilities. Hidden gem and would highly recommend to any travellers!
Very welcoming and informative hosts. Comfortable, spacious room and delicious breakfast. Enjoyed chatting and trading stories with other travellers. Great location for exploring the Golden Bay and Abel Tasman. Excellent place to stay!
It was an awesome staying there. Location is so great that 2minute walk to cafes, bars, super market and lovely artistic stores. So nice place to stay at Takaka after popping on the beautiful golden bay suburb scenery. Highly recommend
We really enjoyed our stay at Jude's BnB - the room was comfortable and clean, breakfast was fab, the location is ideal for exploring Takaka and the surrounding area and Zoe the dog is a fun to hang out with! We had a brilliant stay.
Pleasant atmosphere and available staff members. Good banter among people staying there. Very close to town and right across from a pub with open mic nights and such. Free on street parking avand shared bathrooms that were clean.
Close to Takaka shops and hospitality. Great fair trade plunger coffee and hot chocolate. Clothes airers in the laundry so could get washing dried on our balcony and in our room overnight. Hosts are lovely.
Serge and Marie are wonderful hosts who provide a clean modern home to stay in with a delicious breakfast and not to forget the Spa and Sauna to chill in at the end of the day!
A small paradise !
Very well designed, comfortable chalet fully equipped, close from Takaka, quiet, big surface, warm welcome, very pleasant and relaxing stay. A pleasure 👍😁
Only a short drive in to central Takaka. Beautifully presented facilities, very clean and tidy. Host was very friendly amd helpful. A great place to stay
