We only had breakfast one of the days - and the buffet was a standard buffet. All nice, full english breakfast, all sorts of other choices AND also possible to order ala carte. It has the perfect location! And we had a view over the river and seeing the cathedral in the distance. Short walk to city centre AND the railway station.

We really enjoyed our visit to Durham. The hotel was great, comfy bed, clean room/bathroom, tea/coffee making facilities.... all you need for good break. It was a 35-40 minute walk from the centre of Durham, but as we do a lot of walking anyway that didnt phase us, we cut through a local park area and down the river - it was good to see more of Durham! For those who dont enjoy so much of a walk there is a bus stop on the main road near to the hotel and buses were coming along every 15 minutes of so.
Breakfast isnt served in the hotel building, but across the car park in the sports/spa/leisue centre. There was a good breadfast selection but we opted for the full English which was lovely. For those of you wanting to use the leisure facilites there is a pool, gym rooms and spa. I think it was £10 for the duration of our stay to use these facilities but we didnt bother as we were out all day after breakfast.
Durham is lovely, and there is something for everyone. The beautiful cathedral and castle, lots of eateries, traditional pubs, lively bars and river walks. Not far from Durham is the Beamish - The Living Museum of the North set in 350 acres - a must see.
With modern rooms, free Wi-Fi access and free parking Super 8 by Wyndham Durham is just off junction 61 of the A1 (M), about 4 miles from Durham city centre.

Durham could definitely be one of those towns that appear in fairy tales and stories of kings and knights. Lying on a hilled peninsula formed by the Wear River, the striking cathedral overlooks from the hilltop, surrounded by the castle, palaces and historic buildings. Get transported back in time by the magic of this English jewel, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Though archaeological evidence suggests the area has been inhabited since 2000 BC, the present-day settlement was founded by monks from Lindisfarne in 995, choosing the area as the final resting place of Saint Cuthbert. Symeon of Durham stated once that ‘to see Durham is to see the English Zion, and by doing so one may save oneself a trip to Jerusalem’. Hotels and B&Bs in Durham’s historic centre are a popular choice to enjoy this historic legacy.
Its powerful religious position granted such great honour to the city, that the bishop still holds the rights to a seat in the House of Lords, and to accompany the sovereign at the coronation. During the 19th century and encompassing the industrial revolution, the university was founded, with Durham Castle becoming its first college.
Whether you’re searching for a cottage, a modern hotel, or a cheap hostel, Booking.com offers a wide range of accommodation in the area.

Durham has a lovely city centre and an interesting historical heritage. I visit once a year. MAY/June is my favorite time, and also christmas with the christmas fair at the Cathedral is lovely.
You can easily walk around Durham in a few hours. There are also parks and other areas surrounded the city that ar lovely.
Visit "the Cafédral" for a cream scone and cakes! We have stayed at several hotels - our favorites are Kings Lodge Inn, and Ramshall Golf&Spa hotel.
The cathedral itself is stunning and do take a guided walk! Highly recommended.
The city is a university city - so do avoid coming when there are graduation ceremonies - it will be impossible to find somewhere to eat.
There are several nice places to stay also.
Durham has easy access to the translation for day trips to other cities. Just a short trip to York and Edinburgh.
Take note that there isn't possible to visit the castle anymore, as it is now used by the university. Best evenings out ar wednesday and Fridays. I would avoid saturday..

Durham offers something for everyone.
Durham offers something for everyone. Even more for those who wish to explore the historic castle and Cathedral and surrounding streets. The city offers a comprehensive range of food and restaurants. It is accessible by road and rail.
If you find steep streets challenging there are still plenty of places to pause and browse or rest and eat or drink.
It is a beautiful city to visit.

A lot of pubs where the students go were scruffy and uninviting ( ripped furniture etc). Loved the areas around the cathedral, castle, town square and the river. Tour of castle was limited to 4 areas due to students living in the castle which we were not informed about when we purchased tickets. Thought it was a total waste of time going.
Some nice places to eat such as the Spice Lounge just off the square,Turkish kitchen near the cathedral and the Boat Club near the river.

Durham is a great place for a short break.
Durham is a great place for a short break. Plenty to do and see. The Cathedral and Castle were amazing. The walk along the river was lovely, especially when the sun came out!
Lots of places to eat. Would highly recommend.
We chose this hotel as it had free parking and was within walking distance of Durham City Centre (about 10 minutes). The hotel is surrounded by greenery so did not feel like it was in a city centre. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. We ate breakfast and had two evening meals in the restaurant which were all good. Our room was overlooking the garden and was very clean. The cleaning staff did not service our room during our stay due to Covid restrictions but asked us every morning whether we required anything in the room replenishing.
With the Great North Run that weekend, all hotels were asking more than double their usual rate. So decided to pay for the luxury of a Delta hotel for the same price, and so glad we did! Cheerful welcoming staff, and oh what a gorgeous room! Everything one could wish for in a beautiful room, and could've quire easily stayed in it all night rather than attend the night out we'd travelled for. Whenever we are in Durham again, I will book this room, absolutely perfect!
Location is convenient for Durham City. The house has easy off-road parking.
As we travelled to and fro on foot, we can't comment on the bus service, or car parking in the city centre. If you're planning to walk, you should be aware that it's about 1.5 miles to the city centre - and Durham being what it is, it's not a flat walk.
Good value for money, interesting buildings, amazing chapel is well worth visiting, never seen anything like it..
Nice garden's to walk round and an excellent breakfast included in nice surroundings with helpful staff.Room's not posh but clean and worth the money,a different experience from a normal hotel.would stay again.
The location was perfect, within easy walking distance of Durham City centre. The staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome from our arrival.
The room was lovely and breakfast was fantastic. Thanks so much for a lovely stay, we'll definitely be back in future.
Hotel Indigo is located only a few minutes walk from Durham centre & Cathedral.
Staff very pleasant & helpful.Room spacious & clean with air conditioning.
Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice, we had drinks in bar with reasonable prices, barman very pleasant!
Location was perfect for access to Durham University Open Day, could either walk 20-30mins or catch frequent public bus service from right outside the hotel. Easy stroll down to the river and beautiful countryside on doorstep. Breakfast was sufficient for the price.
A great little hotel, so convenient for the city centre, and very comfortable. Lovely friendly staff, rooms sparklingly clean, and a very tasty breakfast. My third or fourth visit, and I’ve been recommending it to friends and family who will be visiting Durham soon.
Lovely quiet location, very comfortable, great staff and beautiful breakfast. Definitely a hidden gem and will now be our 'go to' place in Durham. Felt like we were really looked after and nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely relaxed stay.
The location by the river was quality.
The easiness of arriving/parking at the hotel was very good.
Check in was rapid- no more that 5 minutes.
Breakfast was plentiful.
Location to Durham City Centre was very convenient.
Clean, comfortable, modern hotel complex.
Never used the gym or pool bcoz we were too busy.
Very helpful staff.
Located just outside the city, can walk to retail park.
Bus every 12 mins into city, a 10 minute ride.
Great hotel, staff were absolutely lovely and helpful and the room was clean and comfy :) would definitely return! Lovely location and the pub itself had a great selection of drinks at really reasonable prices.
The location was excellent, within easy walking distance to shops and restaurants in Durham. Also convenient to the University and Cathedral. We didn't have to drive to see the local sights we wanted to see.
Warm welcome from staff and comprehensive introduction to the hotel.
Well appointed room with all essential facilities.
Generous provision of tea/coffee and sweetmeats.
Location close to city centre.
Huge, beautiful castle-like hotel. The room was perfect, spacious, stylish, quiet, comfortable and with a great toilet. Also it was very close to the main attractions of the city. I totally recommend it.
Lovely hotel located on the riverside, very close to the city centre. Free use of the health club which was of a really good standard and a well stocked hotel bar. Bed was really comfy too.
Excellent breakfasts and service. The hotel was very close to Durham so ideal for visiting the family. The walks to and from Durham were delightful. An ideal location.
Very centrally located
Excellent service and very friendly staff. Room was spacious with comfortable bed and good TV. Dinner in hotel’s bar was surprisingly good
