Copthorne Hotel Greymouth, hotel in Greymouth

With a riverside location right in the center of town, Copthorne Hotel Greymouth offers comfortable, modern accommodations and easy access to the West Coast's spectacular scenic attractions.

Greymouth is a very small town but this hotel is located right in the middle. This hotle has an excellent central location and the entire town is walkable. Our room even had a nice view of the ocean right out our window. We booked this hotel primarily as an overnight stay as we had taken the TransAlpine from Christchurch. The break from the 4+ hour train ride was enjoyable and allowed us to enjoy this lovely little town.

A very strong, freezing wind was blowing, unfortunately, during my stay, which hampered my exploration of the Greymouth area. The library was well set up for Wifi and warmth. I was unable to find a cafe/restaurant with good food. Coffee was good. The iSite staff were friendly, and were able to answer all of my questions. I arrived on the TranzAlpine train, this journey was well worth while.

Global Village Travelers hostel was the most attractive of the six I stayed in during my visit to the West Coast. It was clean, well decorated, and welcoming. Each bed of my female only dorm room had its own electrical outlet and light. The kitchen was clean and well stocked with cookware. Lots of books and pamphlets in the common rooms about the surrounding area. I recommend it highly for solo female travelers!

Very good stopping pony to visit pancake rocks and the blow holes. We walked to the coal creek falls which was lovely. We drove to Franz Josef, Fox Glacier and Hokitika. Greymouth was okay but there is absolutely nothing to do when it’s raining. Its only a small town.. the big pils is it has no traffic lights!

We enjoyed eating at the Speights Ale House and having coffee at the Robert Harris Coffee lounge. Our stay at the Sundowner Motel was clean and spacious. Our hosts were helpful and this made our stay enjoyable. The information boards around the town were interesting to read as we walked around but once we had accomplished this there was not a lot else to do. We would have liked to hire a car and explore further a field but no one would allow us to hire a car for a day.

Greymouth itself is not very attractive but the coastal drive north to Punakaiki offers fantastic scenery, and Hokitika Gorge to the south will not disappoint. There’s a small restaurant in Greymouth called Sevenpenny which was very good, far better than the overpriced restaurant in our hotel.

The Duke Hostel was a brilliant two-night stay for us! Firstly, the owner is super friendly and a really nice and helpful guy. Next up, the rooms, kitchen, bathrooms were all immaculate and exceptionally clean. The bed was extra comfy! The communal kitchen had everything we needed and was very well kept. This is one of the best hostels we've stayed in during our 5 week trip through New Zealand and we'd definitely recommend staying here! Thanks!

This was the nicest property we stayed in during our holiday in New Zealand including some that were much more expensive. It is is a lovely rural location and the option of having a slow roast cooked by the hosts who sat and chatted with us was wonderful. Really lovely touches in the suite including decent toiletries and furnishings.

This property is easily accessible in an excellent, quiet and peaceful, secluded bush clad location and is centrally located to explore the West Coast from Greymouth to Hokitika with the convenience of shopping not too far away. We didn't use the hot tub in the bush surrounds but our relatives did; it was a lovely bonus for them!

The Sundowner is my "go to" first choice in Greymouth. It's a "CCC" property ... comfortable, clean & convenient and the owners Abby & TJ are very helpful. Sometimes simple is just better than elegant, so unless they have no vacancy that's where I like to stay ...

Friendly staff, reasonable quality restaurant, building has been upgraded but it seems to be a work unfinished or on limited budget in certain areas - rooms, restaurant (carpet appears to be dated).
