We did a wonderful walking tour with an excellent guide which gave us a great overview of the city. We highly recommend taking a walking tour.
We loved everything about the Old Town. It was raining some of the time we were there and the beautiful arcades kept us dry.
We were lucky to be there when they had the light show on the Parliament Building which was magical. Hotel Akomo Bern was a very short walk to the Parliament Building.
We had dinner in two excellent restaurants - one Italian and one Swiss.

Bern is such a lovely city, especially the older part.
Bern is such a lovely city, especially the older part. The older streets with the arcades are amazing to wander about. Free public transport is such a good idea and allows you to explore further, such as Gurten, which is a really nice area to go for a walk. The walk along the Aare River is also lovely and can be done at any time of the year. There is a brilliant mix of city life and nature. Plus the Swiss chocolate is always good.

Chirstmas ambiance at Bern was really great.
Chirstmas ambiance at Bern was really great. Christmas market (chalet with Fondue) was nice too.
Also, in summer time, don't forget to swim in the Aare river (strong current can hold/push you). Go to Marzili Platz to enjoy it.
Really funny (requires some swim skills of course, not for babies/beginners).

Excellent place to ride a bike or take a walk. If you prefer public transportation look no further:) Bern, and Switzerland in general has excellent railway system.
Many things to do in the summer (I recommend floating down the river Aare).
In Winter if you are fond of skiing Canton of Bern offers many ski resorts in Swiss alps.

Bern is beautiful!
Bern is beautiful! We had two days there, and it was enough, but I know there are some activities just out of town if you want to stay a little longer. We recommend it for couples, families with kids and even solo travelling. The city is just perfect.

From where we are staying which is very much in the heart of the city, is very metropolitan. Heavily populated but safe. There are lots of restaurants and shops around. Trams and buses are accessible wherever you want to go. Trains are all running on schedule as all Swiss trains do. Bern is small but it has its own charms and the people are helpful and friendly. Nice place to visit.
Nice hotel located across from the train station. I usually do not choose hotels near a city train station. Bern and the Schweizerhof is an exception. Bern is working hard to become a car-free city and while its train station is a fair-sized connector throughout Switzerland and Europe, it was not crowded, noisy, or dirty. Our room was small but had everything we needed. The bathroom was large with a shower and bathtub. Separate WC. The staff attentive and accommodating. This hotel definitely seems to cater to business people.
Breakfast was really good, had even warm food, which is not usual in Switzerland. Location very convenient, close to the old town, easily accessible by public transport, but also close enough to walk. Family/triple room quite small, but ok, usual Ibis. Street-side room was quiet and although we could not leave the window open for night, we still had enough air, ie room had good ventilation.
Great location. Space was very thoughtfully designed, from the cozy room, to the inviting common area and the nice rooftop. Staff was really friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the complimentary coffee (great quality!) and snacks. The self check in process and digital keys worked really well. More hotels need to be like this!! We will definitely stay here again next time we are in Bern.
Albert and Frida are excellent hosts--very engaging and competent. Hotel is across the river from the old town, in a quiet area, but a short walk to Bern attractions. Food in their restaurant was exception, with a range of options (incl. tasty veg). If you can accomodate stairs to rooms, this is an excellent choice).
This is a big property with spacious rooms (given the room size in most of the hotels in Switzerland). its a bit away from city center but just 10 minutes bus ride and stop right outside hotel, next to rose garden where you can enjoy the great city view. All in all its a great place and value for money.
Location, cleanliness and service are excellent.
I could even get my postcard mailed by leaving it at the front desk.
I forgot my jacket and they helped to send it back to me in my next stop in Switzerland. The team was super helpful and handled every request with heart and in a professional way.
The location is perfect. Just steps away from the train station and also there is a public transport stop just outside the hotel. This was crucial for me choosing this hotel. It was wonderful since with my hotel confirmation number I enjoyed of free transportation during my entire stay in Bern!
A beautiful old-fashioned hotel in the heart of the Old Town. The reception staff was kind and professional and the room was just what I wanted, clean, quiet, spacious and comfortable.
It's Switzerland so the prices are always high, but in the context ....it was good.
Breakfast was great (lot's of thing to eat)
You can park in the hotel (7 euros a day)
A bus is really nearby the hotel and drop you to Bern center in 15-20 minutes. Public transportation is free (you are given a code to use in BernWelcome app)
Clean, quiet, air conditioned room, in a good location, and practically across the street from one of the best wine bars in Switzerland - La Passion du Vin. The staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfasts were also well done.
I loved my stay at the hostel. It's real value for money. I loved the location most of all. It's close to all the main attractions and bars. I will be returning to Switzerland in the summer and I plan on staying here again.
Lovely place located on a quiet street very close to a tram line. The welcome was warm and informative.
The room was well appointed with water and coffee machine. A minibar which is a rarity in Switzerland. Felt safe.
- Staff very friendly
- Hotel very pretty
- Modern rooms
- Great breakfast
- Public transport is included in Bern, this takes you to the city center within 10 minutes. Walking will take you 20-30 min.
In an expensive country like Switzerland, finding a nice and cheap place where to stay is absolutely great. And this is Bern Backpackers. Nice rooms, safe, clean, kind staff and perfect location.
Great location! Area not overly crowded. Close to bus line. Get to old Bern in less than 10 minutes on bus. Breakfast was a great asset for hotel. Good food and a great savings on eating out.
Great location (near Tram), comfortable bed and bathroom, good size of hotel room. Great rooftop bar, nice view of Bern! What’s nice is the hotel gave us a city card!
The staff was friendly and the location was good. The hotel is infront of the tram that takes you directly to downtown Bern or wherever you need to go.
