Hotel Alpina, hotel in Kandersteg

The Hotel Alpina is a child- and family-friendly hotel with a big garden in Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland.

Lovely hotel realy liked it. Great owner who also does the cooking lovely guy had some great advice for us for things to do when staying there. Further more the room was clean and had nice extra warm blankets and a lovely view of the mountains ⛰️. Shame it was snowing a lot of the time there so the views weren't to visable except in the evening. Also a great surrounding to hike. If you want the more touristic things I highly recommend doing it by train.

Kandersteg is a wonderful village in a beautiful setting with lots to offer but is relatively quiet compared to other similar locations nearby. It's a wonderful place to getaway and be surrounded by farms, nature, elements and silence.

We went in late summer and walked in a different part of the surrounding mountains every day. Good cable car access to or from higher areas but also options to walk to the mountains/lakes from Kandersteg. Local buses and trains are free with the area guest pass and there is 20% off cable car fares. Several restaurants to choose from for meals and coop etc to buy picnic. Beautiful village. Only 2 hour train journey from Basel. Kandersteg tourist office website has info on many local walks with interactive maps.

At the altitude of Kandersteg, wildflowers are at their peak in early to mid June. The place is suitable for children (the Rodelbahn), the more accomplished climbers (the Via Ferrata), and everyone in between. It's a gateway to beautiful places for hikers of various abilities, e.g. the Gasterntal, the Allmenalp, the Gemmi Pass, the Oeschinnensee, the various alpine huts. Perhaps that's why the International Scouts Centre is situated in Kandersteg. Everything within the village is within a 10-minute walk. Anything further can be reached by hourly bus service (free with guest card).

Stunning mountain scenery, fantastic walking via cable cars. We received free passes for the cable cars as part of a village-wide promotion for a 3 + night stay. Very good public swimming pool in the village - used every day due to hot weather.

Kandersteg is a clean and beautiful town near alpine hikes, ski areas with activities in summer, bicycling, and many other outdoor activities, all with spectacular scenery. We used Kandersteg as a place to rest with a day-hike between longer hikes in the SAC huts above tree-line, which require a lot more strenuous hiking to reach. The Oeschinensee is spectacular, and also fascinating from a geotechnical engineering perspective.

Beautiful little hamlet in the Alps with easy access by train. The views are spectacular and a cable car carries you up far above the city with spectacular views of the city and a beautiful glacier melt lake after a short hike. Most services are available in town including groceries, pharmacy, numerous restaurants, and hotels in a variety of price ranges.

I had booked a hotel the last week before my vacation, so the choice of hotels was limited. We came to Kandersteg for hiking and beautiful surroundings, so we didn't find fault with the hotel. The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. The staff is really best thing of this hotel. Breakfast was small and tasty, but the selection of cheeses and hams could have been more. In the evening we went out to the village and I want to note that all restaurants in Kandersteg serve the same set of dishes, but of different quality)

Our room should rather be described as apartments; wide rooms with balcony and nice view on mountains. However the best value of this hotel is its staff - very kind and always highly positive. Breakfast and breakfast time was always enjoyable both inside and outside in hotel`s garden. Indeed, location of hotel is perfect despite of quite a small area of the town. It`s just in the middle of three main mountain hiking directions. Worth to be mentioned, my wife liked to spend some time in hotel`s swimming pool before dinner.

The chalet is very cozy, located in a calm and beautiful neighborhood surrounded by meadows and a small stream and at a short driving distance from the cable cars. The rooms were very comfortable, the kitchen fully equipped and the living room with a view of mountains and waterfall. The owner was very kind and always available to give some hints about nice attractions in the nearby area.

The location of the property is great, very close to the train station and also close to where some nice hikes start. The hotel is surrounded by mountains and no matter in which room you end up you will have an awesome view from the window. The breakfast is very good and certainly exceeded our expectations with limited options but definately high quality foods.
