The location within the valley was great, with short walks through the neighborhood to other areas full of birds. There was a very good restaurant about 100 meters away and a well furnished kitchen. The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean, and sitting on the verandah drinking our morning coffee or a glass of wine in the afternoon listening to and watching the birds was very relaxing and pleasant. There were panederias, restaurants and markets within easy walking distance of the property.

Absolutely gorgeous area and a must-see for nature lovers! Tenorio National Park was wonderful, although quite crowded, so get there as early as possible. I highly recommend the hanging bridges trail at the Heliconias lodge because it was incredible and hardly anyone was there. We also got to see toucans on the road up there.

The town is essentially a series of businesses along Rte 6, a major road heading North/South. It’s about 1 mile in length. Beautiful vistas coming from the south and heading between the 2 volcanoes of Tenorio and Miravalles. The town is not picturesque but it’s surroundings are. Besides hiking to the waterfall and the lagoon of Rio Celeste, which is an amazing color, there’s not a lot to do (or not a lot to do that you haven’t done elsewhere in CR). For bird watchers, Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge and its boat tours on the river and lake come highly recommended. 2 nights of accommodations is good for most people. We stayed at Finca La Amistad, a working cacao farm, which I highly recommend. Bucolic surroundings, great owner and staff, nice accommodations and a nice chocolate tour makes it a great place to stay.

Great little hike, we were happy to have Jose, as our guide.

Great little hike, we were happy to have Jose, as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and fun. We only wished his english or our spanish were better! We saw lovely birds, including scarlet macaws, a bat, monkeys, lizards. The park has 2 access points and the unofficial one was better as it was more natural and you didn't hear traffic noise.

Be prepared for daily rain squalls even in "dry" season. Great cloud-forest hiking, especially to Catarata Bijagua--not many wild animals, but plenty of beautiful forests, rushing river, and waterfalls. In Bijagua, Restaurante/Pizzeria El Barrigon -- popular with locals as well as tourists -- has good-value casados.

Absolute immaculacy. This place is run by remarkable family that goes above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable as possible. In fact, it doesn’t feel like you’re staying in hotel/hostel rather like you’re being hosted by incredible people in their house. Dinorah & Wilfredo take care of everything around the place, they’re extremely kind, hospitable and their courtesy is beyond comprehension. Another great thing here is a breakfast! Delicious and lavish. Loved my stay there and would come back.

We really loved our stay here. The room was comfortable and there was hot water. Breakfast was great. But the best part was the couple who ran the property - they are so kind and made our stay wonderful. We did not have a car so they helped with rides to and from the bus station, and even did some laundry for us. Miguel would point out cool birds for us to see and even stopped on our way to the hotel so we could watch an anteater in the tree. They are great people.

The location is wonderful, right by "downtown" Bijagua. Diego, our host, was amazing, accommodating everything we asked and could have thought to want. Amazing value for quality of stay, beautiful garden, amazing atmosphere, and comfortable beds. The pictures online do not do it justice, and we all agreed that the price is a steal! Diego offered to taxi us to Tenorio National Park, and our experience at Rio Celeste was top-notch. Cannot recommend this place enough!

When we arrived we got to choose between coffee or cacao as a welcoming drink and we also got some pieces of different chocolate to taste from, which was delicious :). The included cacao tour was very interesting and the staff was very kind. The room was comfortable, pretty and there was also a mosquito net around the bed. Overall it’s a quiet location, perfect to get away from everyday stress. We would have loved to stay longer than one night.

This hotel is a real gem, tucked away on a hillside near Tenorio Volcano. The grounds are beautiful and the public areas are very comfortable. The food was excellent and the owner is very helpful and interesting. There are trails through the gardens and into the jungle across the street from the property. They put out fruit for the birds, so the tree in front of the big windows that open are always full of beautiful birds.

It is very very good location to go to the natural park and view the light blue river. Exceptional, we went walking, only 2 km, the route is a bit difficult but possible. You can see the river before getting to the park , and take photos and also you will know if the river is blue or not before going to the park. The hotel is in a very beautiful enviroment, the room is very normal, to stay one or two nights.

Cecile's breakfast was always wonderful. And so lovely to enjoy it with views of their incredible garden. The best homemade bread!!! The property is stunning and the pool was great for relaxing and cooling off after long hikes exploring the rain forest around Bijagua. Plus the fact that you can get a delicious dinner delivered from local restaurants and in a timely manor made it perfect!
