The city is interesting, particularly in the old quarter around the cathedral and Gaudi building. There are several very good value hotels in the centre of the city and many restaurants which tend to be busy.

Astorga is a lovely town with plenty to see for a weekend stay. Main attraction is the Antonio Gaudi-designed Bishop's Palace (now a museum), a sort of Sleeping Beauty castle designed as a residence for the bishop of the cathedral next door. Secondly, the architecture and buildings all around town -- you can walk for hours and it's even large enough to get lost in, so bring your phone. The cathedral is sadly not very worthwhile -- drab, disorganized, you can go in but you won't stay long. Tip: Almost all shops are closed Sunday, except for the moust touristic, so do your shopping on Saturday.

The old town center was great--an example for the rest of the world! The whole town seemed to come out in the afternoons and evenings to eat, drink, socialize and people watch. It is a model of good urban design fostering community. All pedestrian of course! The people were very friendly to the peregrinos (like me) passing through on their way to Santiago.

Interesting old town with history, character and a great stop on The Camino de Santiago walk which has given a new lease of life to Astorga. The cuisine is another attraction and one hopes the improved economy will continue ... with its abnormally large cathedral and the Gaudi palace, charming town hall, plus the eccentric Paneiro poet family dwelling all add interest and
an old fashioned style of hotel and restaurant with all modern amenities. Very friendly and helpful staff. Apart from the main receptionist, though, no English was spoken, which surprised me slightly as many of the guests are Engish - speakers. An ornate restaurant serves simple table d'hote menus (€22) or quite expensive a la carte (about €60 for me the first night}
Quiet and well furnished good sized room and a comfortable bed. The church bells stopped eventually. Parking was available just close by on a meter; €1.60 for 3 hours
We were greeted with warmth and invited to a very clean and comfortable room with a private bath and a bathtub with lots of towels. What a luxury for a pilgrim on the Camino! The floor shared a fully stocked kitchen with coffee, tea, snacks and candy. This is a must stay in Astorga. I told the owner we would skip breakfast so we can leave early and she insisted she would get up even earlier to cook for us. I can’t imagine anyone else getting treated better in the whole city.
The apartment was nicely decorated, lot of natural light, comfortable beds and spacious bathrooms. It’s 1 min away from the main square and you can park your car on the private parking of the Hotel in charge of the apartments, same place where keys are picked up. Check in experience was super nice, thanks Jenni
This family home built in 1790 has been in the family for over 230 years. The property is truly unique and its location directly on the Camino and within steps of the Astorga Cathedral and the Bishops Palace. As you walk around the courtyard and family home you become a part of this homes history.
Stayed in his beautiful centrally located apartment in Astorga.
Modern clean spacious and less than a 10 minute walk to the cathedral and the many plazas with plenty of bars/restaurants to choose from.
Also the owner was a pleasure to deal with.
We were served a very good Brazilian dinner in a very attractive dining room by our host from Brazil. Good conversation around the dinner table and our very nice private room created the perfect Camino de Santiago pilgrim stay in Astorga.
really friendly staff and lovely spa. restaurant not open when we stayed but had really good breakfast. left my swimming trunks which they forwarded to my next hotel. great service
The receptionist, Nule, was exceptional. She was so pleasant and efficient- best reception we ever had in Spain. Thank you Nule! (Not sure if I have spelled her name correctly)
The room was large and comfortable. The hotel is located on the Plaza Mayor, with many restaurants available. The potential noise problem was neutralized by double windows.
Location was central to the main square but peaceful and tranquil. Owners so very helpful and welcoming and hotel itself was first class. Secure parking for our motorbike.
The apartment is modern, clean, spacious and well appointed! The bathrooms were large and very user-friendly. We found the apartment to be an oasis in Astorga.
