A splash of colour and history in the heart of Catalonia
The colourful and charming gem that is Girona is set on the banks of where the rivers Ter, Onyar, Galligants and Güell meet. Girona is protected by fortifications and features a remarkable medieval centre along with several fine Romanesque and Gothic buildings.
The province houses the ancient Arab Baths, the Girona Cathedral, and the lovely Girona Art Museum. Due its mountainous terrain Girona is also a popular destination for cycling enthusiasts, whilst theatre lovers can enjoy a performance at the Auditorium Jardins del Castell.
Girona has a lively nightlife and offers a wide variety of bars, restaurants and cafés serving anything from local Basque and Catalan delicacies to traditional tapas and an array of international cuisines.
Other popular landmarks to see are the 14th-century Sant Feliu, the historical fortifications, the 11th-century Monastery of San Daniel, and the characteristic Girona Bridge.
Girona Train station offers direct links to bustling Barcelona and the picturesque province of Portbou. Booking.com offers a wide range of accommodation options and deals in Girona and around Catalonia.
Girona is a small charming town with lots to see. It is also a great base for going around to several nearby places like Figueres, Besalu, Lloret de Mar, Platja de Aro etc. if you want to use the public transport. The annual "temps de flors" - a flower festival in May - is a very interesting time to be there. It is a hilly town, so some parts can be difficult to explore for people with limited mobility, without assistance.

We had a great time exploring Girona - the medieval cathedral, basilica, city walls, Arab baths and alleyways; the Eiffel bridge and others and seeing the architecture along the river. Lots of lovely restaurants with good Spanish food - very reasonably price for food and drink. 3 days was maybe a bit long as it's a small city with everything accessible on foot. Should maybe have visited Figueres or the coast as well. Would advise not to go during the flower festival in May - far too busy and some of the plastic flowers ruined the sites (eg. plastic apple trees on steps of 'Game of Thrones' scene)!

Girona is an amazing city with the best of the Catalan culture and lifestyle on offer, with the old town being a highlight. Prices eating out are reasonable and food is amazing. It is a mecca for cyclists with pro cyclists residing in the area. Amazing place...

Beautiful city full of life and amazing food!
Beautiful city full of life and amazing food! We loved strolling the streets finding new corners and hidden places. If you come here, go to Xibarri. They have the best burgers and desserts! It is not a typical tourist city. That is what we love about it the most.

Loved it all.
Loved it all. Food and drink by the river, walking on the walls, the Jewish quarter, its manageable size. Hotel in exactly the easiest position near the town centre and the station and bus station. We used both.

Fantastic place for a cycling holiday.
Fantastic place for a cycling holiday. So many other cyclists, cafes and bike shops make it feel like it was made for cyclists. Roads are buttery smooth and once you get out of town there is very little traffic. So many different scenic routes to choose from.
Feels like a boutique hotel, with attractive furnishings and modern decor, plus a private lounge area on the first floor with refreshments available. Room had two large opening windows allowing for lots of natural light and good airflow. Also had very efficient air conditioning. Good sound proofing from the streets below, and is right in the middle of town, and only a few minute walk from the train station. Self-serve check in and lockers are also very convenient. Great value for a short stay in the city.
The location is the best ever… Right in the middle of the old town and just one block from the old Jewish quarter. Room was great. The only negative is that parking is especially difficult to locate. Expect to pay $30 per day unless you are fortunate enough to find a free spot on the street. Stairs could be a big issue for some folks who are not as fit as we are. We are 62 and 72 and took our luggage up to the fourth floor via the stairs. Not a big deal for me, but it would be for many
Location was perfect. Walking distance to the old town and near proximity to supermarkets and cafes , shopping and the train station.
Service was great. Staff reception assisted us with our parking needs. Speaks English too.
Good thing about this hotel was it had a parking lot beside it. Very easy to go to.
Parking had a discounted rate for 3 days.
The location was great! It was nice to see lots happening in the hotel, there was a fitness facility, restaurant, and a bar for drinks and a casual breakfast with delicious coffee and croissants. There were directions for recycling items from traveling and packaging from shopping. The staff behind the front desk and at the bar were exceptional.
Staff was very nice! I got a good introduction when I arrived and they were helpful. I was accidentally charged twice for my stay, which I realized once I returned home, so I contacted the reception and they reimbursed me within days.
The hotel was within walking distance from the main street, old town and train station.
The bed and pillows are incredibly comfortable! And, the location is close to the Girona train station, which was super convenient for me, as I only travel with a backpack, so I don't like to walk more than 10-15 minutes. This was about 8 minutes (for me) door to door. The hotel is very quiet and I had a pleasant stay.
For the price it was perfect honestly
Very clean , comfortable, helpful host ,right in the old town ,very good internet and parking also very near
During my stay in Catalonia it was by far the best place I've stayed and also the cheapest
If I ever come back I'll make sure to stay there again
Great location near everything across from Nord 1901 hotel. Large well equipped one bedroom apartment. Highly recommended. Excellent air conditioning. Made early check in available. Great communication with host via Booking’s messaging until I got to the apartment.
Hotel Historic had a central location in the old town, with lovely views of the cathedral.
There was an ample and tasty breakfast each day. Good value for money.
Comfortable room, helpful and friendly owners. I would stay in this hotel again when I visit Girona.
First class for this bracket of hotel. Exceptionally crisp and clean with very friendly and helpful staff (as good as they get). Very comfortable beds. Well located near train and bus station, one way, and shops and old town, the other. Highly recommended.
The staff were super helpful and friendly. A lovely comfortable hotel in a very convenient location close to the old town. The room was really comfortable and bathroom lovely, and everything was spotlessly clean. Would definitely recommend.
Location was excellent. It was nice to have a pool however it was very small and busy and we couldn't get a sun lounger so our eagerly anticipated dip in the pool had to be abandoned. Hotel Nord was very stylish with ovely areas to sit.
Exceptional experience in the old town. Very nice and friendly host. I highly recommend this small but very atmospheric hotel for everyone and will definitely come back when I'm visiting Girona again! Wonderful, thank you so much!
Quiet, clean, comfortable hotel just a few minutes walk from the old town. Numerous cafes, restaurants, shops all just outside the hotels doors. Nice breakfast options. Very bike friendly.
staff were friendly and very helpful. the facilities were clean, comfortable and exactly what a boutique hotel should have. the restaurant was excellent for breakfast and dinner.
