Hotel San Polo, hotel in Salamanca

Located in Salamanca’s Old Quarter, Hotel San Polo is built around the ruins of the Romanic San Polo Church. The hotel offers fantastic panoramic views of Salamanca Cathedral, just 150 metres away.

The location was excellent and my reason for booking San Polo. Grumpy staff, no A/C, no fresh air. The window opened but let in all the car fumes and traffic noise. Dreadful breakfast coffee.

FAQs about hotels in Salamanca

An Ancient University Town with Fascinating Culture

In the south-west corner of Castile and Leon, the Spanish city of Salamanca is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe. Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old City is one of the most beautiful Renaissance cities in Europe.

Situated next to the border with Portugal, Salamanca has unique architecture including Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. The Old Cathedral dates from the 12th-13th centuries and joined together with the 16th-century New Cathedral.

One of the most charming squares in Spain, Plaza Mayor is the heart of Salamanca and an excellent example of Baroque architecture. Enjoy a walk around the exterior terraces, savour an ice cream or relax in one of the picturesque restaurants.

Founded by King Alfonso IX in 1218, the University of Salamanca has more than 3,500 international students and teachers. Known for its Spanish courses for non-native speakers, the university houses a huge library with more than 150,000 invaluable volumes.

Booking.com offers a great variety of hotels, guest houses, hostels and apartments to choose from. Salamanca Airport is 15 km away from the city and is easily accessible by public transport.

    Great architecture and friendly atmosphere.

Great architecture and friendly atmosphere. Plenty of bars and restaurants. It would have been very helpful if menus could have been in English for us as many times we didn’t buy because we didn’t know what we were ordering and the translate app wasn’t good enough at times. Made food ordering laborious and way to difficult at times.

Salamanca is a lovely city and definitely worth a visit. We stayed 3 night and were able to see everything we wanted without rushing. It is a walkable city. We came by train and left by bus. We used the local bus only once, and that was to get to our apartment. We were there during Easter weekend, so reservations are important. Great restaurants and food.

Salamanca has a very important role in the history of medieval philosophy, being one of the oldest continuously matriculated schools in the world, where Jesuits and Dominican friars debated about the universe and the rights of men, where Cervantes studied, and where inquisitors were honed. Well, a good background reading is a must rather than simply becoming a passive guest of this ancient city (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salamanca).

I wholeheartedly recommend this apartment; if we ever come back to Salamanca, we’ll certainly stay here again. It's not far from Plaza Mayor, we stayed for 4 nights and everything was within walking distance. However, if you need a bus, you can take one from Avda. Reyes de Espana (less than 10 minutes walk). A nice, clean apartment. The kitchen was fully stocked, although we only used it for making coffee. And what we were looking for considering that we were in Spain in February – March, there was enough heat.

We have stayed here many times en-route to Portugal as it is almost exactly half way for us. The hotel is located 5 minutes off the motorway and is a nice stroll to the city centre on a nice sunny day or 5/6 euros in a taxi if the weather is not so good. Parking is free around the hotel and there is underground parking if you want secure parking. The staff are really good and friendly, the food is good if you decide to eat in.

Everything! We had a fantastic room again, as it was our 2nd visit to the Alameda Palace, it included a separate area for 3 piece suite. The decor including the en-suite was top notch in classic rather contemporary style. Great view of the park across the road, and a pleasant roof terrace with small pool. The hotel is a very pleasant 10/15 minute stroll to the Plaza Mayor which must be the most beautiful in the whole of Spain

This hotel is located on one of the most picturesque streets in all of Salamanca. It is surrounded by palaces and churches from the 16th-18th centuries, everything in a warm sandstone. All the main sights were in easy walking distance, and there were abundant restaurants and bars close by. They let me drop my bags so I could explore the city until my train left in the evening.
