First and foremost, the staff were exceptional. Not only were they incredibly friendly, but they were also a wealth of knowledge when it came to local information. Whether I needed recommendations for dining, sightseeing, or exploring the area, they were always ready to provide the very best suggestions, making my stay even more memorable.
The lodge's location is another highlight. Situated right in the heart of the historical part of Santillana del Mar, it offered the perfect blend of convenience and authenticity. Despite being nestled in the midst of such rich history, the lodge still managed to provide ample parking spots, making it incredibly convenient for travelers like myself.
As for the accommodations themselves, they were nothing short of delightful. The building exuded historical charm, while the rooms were impeccably clean and comfortable. Really lovely building, felt very authentic. The pool was an added bonus. The room was big and had good facilities, the bed was very comfortable. Was a stone's throw from Santillana del mar, just outside of the village with parking. The breakfast for 10 euro was really good, you really got you're money's worth. Would really recommend this hotel, exceptional value for money. Staff were really nice and it's easy to visit surrounding towns.

This is a beautiful little medieval town with cobbled streets and impressive ancient buildings. A central feature is the large cathedral of Colegiata of St. Juliana, where you can visit the cloisters or attend Catholic mass. It stands in a square which is bordered by an art museum (Jesus Otero). A few cobbled streets run off the square, with plenty of restaurants and hotels to choose from. They are proud of their cheese and other local produce, so there are several shops dedicated to this. The Conventa Clarisas (convent of the poor Clares) is also very charming and is famous for its pastries for sale. We stayed in the beautiful Hotel Casa del Marques, whose staff were very friendly and welcoming, in a well-appointed and spacious room with large comfortable bed, seating areas and ensuite, all in keeping with the charming classic style of the hotel. We also spent a night at the Hotel los Infantes, which is impressively grand. It is easy to access this small town on foot, but it is possible to drive through the cobbled streets and there is a public car park which is free. The town is not actually on the coast, but is 10 minutes' drive from pretty local beaches.

This is a must-see, very beautiful town.
This is a must-see, very beautiful town. It is close to the Altamira Caves, although we decided not to visit them. We ate in a little restaurant at the square and the food was incredible and very cheap. We got to Santillana del Mar by car and it was easy to find, parking is available and overnight parking was free.

Santillana del Mar is a well preserved historic town in beautiful setting. Lovely to walk the cobbled streets and soak in the ambiance of the old town. The Catholic Church was really interesting as was local museum- downside was no English signage in either.
Barely 2km from town is the astounding Cave of Altamira and museum. They have protected these prehistoric caves by building a museum containing an accurate replica of the caves and artwork. That alongside a fascinating exhibition of the era concerned made for a compelling visit. In high season, best to get there early as there are limited numbers going through the museum. Lovely walking through area and viewing (from distance) original cave entrance. Beautifully maintained and very helpful staff. Information in Spanish & English.
Multitude of cafe/restaurants in old town with great food

This place is unique, as are each of the houses / places to stay - so much character! The church of Santa Juliana is a gem, and the 12th century cloister is amazing. The village is a lovely blend of culture and country - incredible architecture and free-range chickens / horses. Altogether delightful!

Santillana del Mar is a beautiful village with some lovely buildings but is leaning towards being overly touristy and much of what was on sale was repetitive and not great quality.
However, it has a superb ceramics shop - if you are interested in lovely pieces then do visit ARPA.Also a lovely little leather goods sho[ and a couple of decent jewellers .

Set in a beautiful and characterful period building, the hotel retains many original architectural features whilst incorporating all requisite modern facilities. It is tastefully decorated with the facsimile Leonardos and other Renaissace masters an amusing addition. The staff were particularly excellent, most helpful, attentive and clearly enjoying their work. This was an exceptional place to stay which we cannot recommend highly enough.
Our second stay in Sep 2023. A different room this time - outside the main building. Not as good as our previous room but to be expected as a little older I suspect. Great location for Santander and the beautiful town of Santillana del Mar. Great hospitality, lovely breakfasts, tranquil location in quiet countryside location off the beaten track. Superb gardens. Very Dog friendly which is a bonus for us.
Old traditional and very stylish house right in the center of Santillana with safe private parking; our room was immaculate, beautiful and had a very modern and stylish bath; superb breakfast; the manager and ‚Jack of all Trades‘ Raff was very friendly, witty and helpful with different recommendations concerning i.e. trips to the near coast or our further journey through Spain
Beautiful hotel with amazing views, very well maintained, lovely spa experience and very friendly staff. The restaurant was great and the food delicious. We also loved the antique car and motorbike collection. The room was beautiful and the beds very comfortable. Spotlessly clean. 10/10!
extremely helpful staff; beautiful hotel; comfortable beds; a tub and shower!!!!; lots of places to sit, read and write; private Juliet balcony in room. Hotel
provided a free tour of town and the and the guide Luis was excellent.
Simple hotel located just outside the historic center of Santillana del Mar, large room, lovely terrace outside hotel, very clean, host offered scrambled eggs at included breakfast (a luxury!)
For us it was a lovely stay, a very interesting experience. You can walk to Santillana del Mar from the camping site, no need to drive. If you want to visit the cave, better drive the car.
The hotel Altamira was an excellent facility. The room was spacious. The dining facilities on site were wonderful. An excellent breakfast. Truly an outstanding place.
