The staff were really friendly and welcoming to dogs. When we arrived, we received a little dog pack with treats, waste bags and a ball in which I thought was a lovely touch. Location was excellent and grounds were lovely

Nice room, everything was clean and comfortable. Next to the lake was a bonus too, to chill with a drink - and its 5 min drive to ambleside center. We managed to access all what we wanted to see, including rydal caves and wray castle within a 15 min drive, and the ferry service down to bowness. Breakfast was aweaome - Would stay here again

Beautiful town and friendly people.
Beautiful town and friendly people. We ate lunch three times (in four days!) at Fresher's Café and really enjoyed the food (obviously). They have their own delicious home-made quiches. I am sure this has to be the friendliest place to eat in the Lake District. Special mention to Michael, who was super helpful and humorous.
On the day we did not eat there, we went next door! To the Great North Pie Co and I had the best steak and ale pie I have ever had. It was served on mashed potato, with mushy peas and onion gravy.

Perfect town to stay at if seeking a base in Lake District.
Perfect town to stay at if seeking a base in Lake District. We didn’t have a car and honestly had no need for one as it was easy to reach by train and had plenty of local busses - including hikes that start at centre of town. Enough dining options and overall “village” feeling without it being too busy or too quiet / isolated. Traveled as a couple so cannot comment on appropriateness if a family
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Water Wheel. Perfect location in the middle of Ambleside, but nicely tucked away from any noise. Debbie and Paul were wonderful hosts, and just lovely people in general! The room was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was lovely and the flapjacks were amazing! The attention to detail and homely touches were very much appreciated. Would highly recommend this guesthouse to others!
Location is excellent at the top of Lake Windermere. We had a view of the lake from our room so very pleased with that. Room was adequately spacious and comfortable. Staff always very friendly and available. Over all the hotel suited and provided all we required.
Dog friendly hotel. We don't have a dog but appreciated the restaurant separating those with dogs from those who don't.
The room was larger than we expected and exceptionally clean. The continental breakfast was excellent with a huge choice of fruit and a good choice of other food. The staff were welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Our room overlooked the park opposite the hotel and had views of the mountains beyond. The hotel has an excellent location near the centre of Ambleside.
The hotel was beautiful and decorated to a very high standard. It's location was perfect and a 5 minute walk into Ambleside. We didn't eat in the hotel but the breakfast was amazing, one of the nicest breakfasts we have had on our trip. Our room was lovely and had everything we wanted. Would definitely recommend staying at Rothay Manor.
Nice, decent size and bright room with spacious bathroom that met our expectations. In the heart of Ambleside, which is a little gem of a town. Whilst the hotel rooms are above the pub and in the town centre, there was very little noise and we had great nights sleep.
Hotel was in a perfect location, lovely staff, amazing food and great atmosphere. The room was fabulous with added extra touches. Highly recommended the afternoon tea. Gluten free food options also available. Dog friendly so will bebbringing him along next time
This is a beautiful hotel of a high standard. Stunning throughout. Staff friendly and food great. Spa is so good. My wife had an amazing full body massage and we both spent time in the spa are with pool and jacuzzis etc. so good.
Lovely room in the log house opposite the hotel, really dog friendly, lovely staff happy to help, good location 2 min walk into Ambleside centre, clean and comfortable hotel. Can’t fault it. Would definitely stay again.
