    A lovely little town.

A lovely little town. Obviously you will most likely be going for the bookshops. There are also other interesting shops, and on one of the days we visited - Thursday - a market. Lovely countryside around too

Beautiful town. A must for all book lovers. Plenty of good quality eateries, providing a range of eating options. Local people are very friendly. We have visited three times in recent years and fully intend to visit again. We would never tire of this place.

Hay is great , there is always something to do here. Some lovely antique shops and vintage bizarres. Great coffee shops and restaurants. The Castle has been restored and is a beautiful gift to behold. We love walking along the river to The Warren and having a dip in the cold water. A little gem of a place.

Hay is a beautiful village with many historic buildings and interesting shops. There are many options for outdoor recreation in the area. One thing to note is that most shops close at 5 PM. My favorite meal was dinner at The Old Black Lion. Every meal I had in Hay was excellent. Please note if you are using the bus to get from the train station at Hereford to check the bus schedule yourself since Google Maps pulled from the wrong table. There is a lovely walking path along the River Wye with amazing views of the river.

    A wonderful place to visit!

A wonderful place to visit! Quirky shops, vast array of book & antique shops and a lovely market. Coffee shops we’ve visited have all been excellent. My husband and I regularly visit for a night or two. We dine at the Blue Boar and occasionally the Indian restaurant- both superb! Lovely walks, and a ambience of calmness & fresh air entices us back all seasons. My daughter and I have also camped nearby- that’s was fabulous too!

    pretentious!

pretentious! Only one overpriced pub which did food I liked.. the food cost telephone numbers A lot of visitors looked they had just come out of a 1960's folk festival Er, since the advent of Amazon do we really need bookshops?

Owner/hosts were absolutely amazing. They were able to give you complete privacy and treat you like one of the family. It was an entirely unique and positive experience. The inn along with the breakfast/bar/dinner was exceptional (do not underestimate the dinners here!!). The location was in the heart of the village and was an easy walk from the bus stop. I truly cannot say enough good things about this stay and will 100% be going back here the next time I visit Hay-on-Wye!

A wonderful apartment in Hay! From the meeting with the owner for the handover and tour of the apartment to our experience of living in a great apartment in this beautiful and eclectic town, our experience was really special. It was exactly what we needed and felt very comfortable, even having friends over for wine and cheese in the spacious living area. It was a perfect home-away-from home. Looking forward to returning in the future. Will definitely stay here again.

We opted for The Smithy as part of a rural getaway to Hay-on-Wye. It made for a perfect choice based on its location to the town, and being a nice tranquil space for us to retreat to. Chris was very generous made us feel very welcome, the room was full of character and had everything we needed. Plus the extensive breakfast selection made for a lovely treat. Complete value for money, would absolutely recommend. Thank you both!

Irene and Barry were extremely welcoming and we were greated with some freshly made muffins and all we needed to make ourselves a lovely breakfast in the morning. The hut is suprisingly spacious and has all the modern comforts. It is just a short drive down to Hay-on-Wye and about 40 minutes from Hereford. We came for a weekend but would have happily stayed for a week. Highly recommended.

Friendly and attentive staff Comfortable rooms 5 & 6 & 2 Excellent breakfast, especially the fruit salad! Very very convenient for town centre. Dog friendly Good Wifi reception Did I mention the fruit salad..? Mind your head! I'm 6'2"!!!😁 You are staying in a hotel that is opposite a Clock Tower. Be prepared for the chimes! Every hotel in Hay can hear it anyway...

We arrived late about 7:30, but the receptionist confirmed our reservation for dinner. The food I think is slightly pricey, but I had the beef with roast vegetables which was extremely good. My wife and I stayed there three weeks ago and we will definitely keep going back. If you're looking for a well run traditional hotel then this is the place to stay in Hay!

Friendly, helpful staff; excellent food (well-deserved gastro pub reputation) comfortable room; seemed well organised in terms covid safety. Hay is a great place to stay - the river Wye, the hills, the horse riding nearby, and of course the bookshops. The hotel was a very good base for two friends on a holiday.

The location is beautiful, with stunning views, the accommodation is superb and the hosts could not have been kinder or more accommodating. The breakfasts were outstanding and small luxuries (baskets of fruit, home made cakes) made our stay really special - all 7 days :-)
