Hotel Varmahlíd, hotel in Varmahlid

Located in Varmahlíd in north Iceland, this hotel is just off the scenic Ring Road.

We booked this hotel a bit last minute due to a storm hitting us in our around Iceland roadtrip and even if it was lastminute, everything was ready and prepared for us. The room had a good size and the food was good both for diner and breakfast.

The host was a great communicator and even though we booked this knowing it was a shared bathroom turned out we had place to ourselves and host kindly upgraded us to the larger family room. Loved the heated flooring during winter time. Host also kindly pointed out when the northern lights were out which we otherwise would have missed.

There wasn't a single thing wrong.

There wasn't a single thing wrong. From the place, to the location, the host, avaliable conveniences while being isolated to relax. The pool outside brings everything to an 11. Enjoying the warmth with the cold outside while gazing at the stars, just what the doctor ordered.

Bad experience with the Bakkaflöt Guesthouse.

Bad experience with the Bakkaflöt Guesthouse. We updated our arrival time, but the hotel did not give a reply. During check in, we showed our reservation letter to a elder staff, but she said no:( and was not friendly. They did also not inform us gate will be closed and the room key can't open the gate!. Because of puncture, we came back to the hotel around 1 o'clock in the morning and the gate was closed. We have to call the staff. Fortunately, that elder staff came to open the gate, but she seemed unhappy and blamed us when we check out.

It’s perfect for a family trip around Iceland.

It’s perfect for a family trip around Iceland. We stay here for five nights. While we were here we rested from our trip around the South. After a resting day we visited the North attractions such as Dettiffos, Godaffos, Myvatn, Grettislaug, and we even managed to visit Grimsey.

Beautiful valley surrounded by mountains and very close to the sea. Rural setting with restaurants and groceries a short drive away. I must return for a longer visit someday. Do not miss Grettislaug, Glaumbaer and dinner at KK Restaurant in Saudárkrókur. Still much to explore.

The stay was excellent. The whole apartment had a very nice flair. It was decorated very beautifully. Furthermore, the host was so nice and welcoming our whole stay. She answered all our questions and helped us make our own Icelandic Lamb soup. I highly recommend this place, it is perfect if you want to relax in a beautiful cozy apartment with a mountain view just in nature. We could also see the northern lights at one point just from the windows of the apartment and had a beautiful hike alone in nature.

This little, lovely house is very clean and comfortable, stands near the Hringvegur (the main Icelandic highway), so that is not hard to find it. The place is so calm and peaceful, around you there's just grass, sheeps (but don't expect any noise: we have never been disturbed by them) and a beautiful wiew. Inside, everything seems to express care for the customer and Disa is a friendly owner. We will come back for sure!

The stay at our hosts' house was wonderful, the best we had during our week-long trip around Iceland. Their house was large, clean, warm and perfectly decorated. There was a breathtaking view from the windows. We also had a hot tub to use, from which we admired the Northern Lights. The hosts made sure our stay was enjoyable 🤍 We are delighted and highly recommend staying at Freyja's and Palli's house.

The Guesthouse is located in the same place where you start the preparation for rafting. Rooms and shared bathrooms are very clean. The shared kitchen is in another building nearby, within the campground, and is well equipped. There are a couple of picnic tables available outside. The hot pools are ok (not natural, no views, but nicely warm). Very close to Fosslaug natural hot springs.

We had such a wonderful time at Solvanes Farmholidays and can’t rate this properly highly enough! Eydis and her family are amazing, generous and knowledgeable hosts who cooked us delicious breakfasts and dinners. We enjoyed meeting the animals in this lovely part of Iceland. The beds were comfy and kitchen well equipped. Thank-you for a fantastic and authentic experience in Iceland!

We loved our stay at Sauerbær Apt, even for just 1 night. We felt homey right away. Friendly welcoming. Very big apt., comfortable beds, good shower, everything clean. Its the only apt, so it was very quiet. Lovely dog. Beautiful waterfall Reykjafall and Fosslaug (hot spring) 25 min walk or 4 min by car (with 10 min walk). We were almost alone there. Would have loved to stay longer!

Very comfortable, very clean and well-appointed rooms. There is a spacious and well-supplied kitchen for guests to use. Location is great for access to outdoor activities in this part of north Iceland, and the Glaumbaer homestead/museum is just a few hundred meters down the road. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Everything exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend.

Amazing 360-degree view! This was the best accommodation we had in Iceland, simply perfect. We loved the design of the small apartment on the upper floor and I could discover something interesting about local photographers thanks to the photography books available there. You can walk around the farm and get closer to the animals roaming there.

What a wonderful place to stay. We were in a cabin with twin beds, plus a loft. Spacious kitchen and living room area, with good sized bathroom and bedroom. A nice front deck overlooking the natural hot spring and the gorgeous Icelandic landscape. All done in natural wood. A very homey place!

Really friendly hostess who met us when we arrived and showed us our room and facilities etc. Beautiful dog too! Small breakfast items in fridge were very welcome. Interesting to chat to our hostess about Icelandic horses and how they're kept on the farm and the mountainsides.

We had a twin room with a private bathroom. The room was clean and comfortable. The setting is rural - we selected this place because we wanted to visit the natural hot spring at Fossalaug which is quite close to the property and has no changing rooms etc. The breakfast was good.

Dinner at the restaurant was exceptional. My wife and I both had their Cod dish that was absolutely fantastic. In addition, my wife has several food allergies and they were able to prepare the dish to meet her needs. Price was very good and the service was definitely 5 stars.
