We visited Tropea in the first half of April.
We visited Tropea in the first half of April. The weather was pleasant and the city wasn´t crowded. Many of the restaurants and bars were still closed before the real season start but there were still plenty of options. Parking wasn´t very easy (and I expect to get some fines in the upcoming weeks).

I was there out of season.
I was there out of season. Many restaurants in Tropea were shut but enough. More opened at the weekend.
Public transport seems limited to the trains. Tropes is on a branch line and at best the trains are every 2 hours. There are lots of beaches to explore.
Access to the hills. Would require some research.

The historic town is mostly pedestrianised or traffic restricted, and although heavily populated by tourists it is big enough not to be overwhelmed (at least that was the case in September). There is a lot of good historic architecture from a variety of periods, and many good restaurants. The beaches are not large, but are within walking distance of the town centre, but you need to be prepared for climbing lots of steps to get to them from the town.

It's a small town with a lot of ancient history.
It's a small town with a lot of ancient history. I highly recommend taking the time to read up on the history of Tropea - how it was founded, how old it is and many other awesome historical facts about it.
Tropea is not just a beach or resort vacation - I am always excited about the crooked streets, the food, the scenic views and the amazing vibe of the place and the people.
Makes me want to come here again and again!
One last tip - sunscreen, hiking shoes and a basic Italian vocabulary will make your visit perfect )
The staff were friendly and very helpful. Arranged transport to and from the train station. My room had a gorgeous view of the coast, sea and on the clear days I could see Stromboli and the Aeolian Islands.
Tropea is a quaint and lovely town. Ricardo and Mimi are wonderful hosts. She recommended a wonderful cooking class for me that was held at a hill top farm in an outdoor kitchen. It was fantastic, authentic Calabrian food.
My stay needed to be extended and they were able to arrange it so they could accommodate me. I am grateful to them.
This apartment was excellent - high quality furnishings, thoughtful design and very attractive. It was also spacious with a large and well furnished terrace which was perfect for us and our large dog. The location is terrific, just outside the centro storico with a secured paid parking garage less than 100 metres away. We have been doing a road trip in Southern Italy with our car and dog staying in similarly priced accommodation and S’O Suites was the undoubted winner in quality of accommodation.
This is our second visit to Don Carlo and it definitely won’t be our last! We absolutely love the central location, amazing hosts, comfortable modern furnishings and the delicious freshly cooked breakfast on the terrace! Huge thank you to Karina for all the recommendations for food, ice cream and drinks in the area! The avocado toast was especially delicious and the freshly baked croissants with Pistachio - best breakfast in Italy so far! See you again next year, hopefully for longer this time! ❤️
it was our best stay in Italy! absolutely amazing location with the most incredible view! very convenient location to all best things of tropea- beach, restaurants, shopping, entertainment- all is right there in walking distance. very very comfortable Appartement with all the most needed items in a very simple and accessible places, very clean and very spacious.
Hostess of that place was the most professional, very caring and amazingly helpful!
Manuela was there at our arrival to hand out the keys of the apartment. She was very kind and helpful.
The apartment has a well equipped kitchen and sitting outside in the garden is very lovely. We had our best stay during our trip in south Italy
We pressed our own orange juice with the oranges in the garden.
Would recommend going by car, but city and beach of Tropea are reached by approximately 10 minutes walk
the hotel is very pretty, the rooms are big and beautifully decorated. The service excellent and we got some fantastic tips on restaurants from Julia and her colleagues. the cleaning left nothing more to wish and breakfast served all our different tastes for our family of 7 people. if you have the chance- stay here for your vacation in Tropea!
Excellent service, parking, nicely decorated rooms, comfy beds and pillows! The owner, Mariano was so kind and a perfect host. The breakfast was outstanding with fresh pastries, fresh fruit, and eggs made to order. This was the best accommodation we had on our entire Italy holiday. Would 100% stay here again if I came back to Tropea.
Emilio and his mother run a flawless place in Tropea. The room was spotless and the breakfast was fresh. The Hotel is situated in the heart of Tropea with access to everything (Beach, Restaurants, Shops) within minutes. The room was really comfortable and we felt welcome. The host was kind and could even speak german. A nice touch were the free beverages. It's only a short walk to the beach and about 15 minutes from the trainstation.
Overall, it was a really pleasant stay in Tropea and we would definitely recommend it.
It can be difficult to find modern acommodation in southern Italy but this one ticked all the boxes....smart TVs, mood lighting, minimalist style, big sliding glass doors, strong air conditioning. 10min walk to the center with free parking directly outside. The host was so friendly and provided gifts.
Casa Ambrosia Tropea in Tropea, Italy, exceeded our expectations. The apartment was clean, well-placed in the historical center, and had efficient air conditioning. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended for a wonderful stay in Tropea.
The room was impeccable, very comfortable and clean. The bathroom/shower was one of the best we had during our one month stay in Italy in general. It was also very quiet which I believe was due to the good soundproofing.
It's been a pleasent stay, the room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast had a lot of choice and the staff was really kind. I Will surely suggest this solution to my friends for a beautiful trip in Italy!
The hotel is beautiful, the staff is very polite and so so nice. Once I asked for a taxi to be called and they gave me a ride for free. The breakfast is amazing and the location is the best for Tropea.
We liked everything! The location was ideal and the host was wonderful. The house was very comfortable and was well provishioned. We loved Tropea and will definitely return.
Beautiful setting in a great location- at the top of the centro storico, and only a short walk to the train station. Amazing breakfast spread, the best I've seen in Italy.
I just loved the friendly atmosphere of the hotel. Breakfast was the best breakfast I ever had in Italy - it was just amazing. Room was very quiet and comfortable.
