Right oppositie the station. Smallest room of our trip. Average hotel in all aspects, except for the front desk where the staff is courteous. Nothing super, nothing bad.
We didn't have breakfast in the hotel, but the information sheet showed the average set of items.
If you need a room near the station there is no reason why you shouldn't stay here.

The room was not filled with single use items, but you had the option to take what you needed from the lobby (I really appreciate whatever is done to reduce the use of single use products). The location was very convenient, just two minutes from the train station. The breakfast was great with a full option of Japanese products.

While Nagano is best known outside Japan as a Winter...
While Nagano is best known outside Japan as a Winter Olympics host city and a favourite place for people to ski in Winter, it is also the site of the Zenkō-ji Temple.
As one of the most important Buddhist sites in Japan it is extensive and beautifully landscaped. Despite the large number of visitors we felt calmed each of the times we walked through the grounds. You can also purchase a ticket (¥1,200) to climb the Niōmon Gate, visit the main Hondo and walk through the dark tunnel, turn the giant storehouse that contains a complete set of sutras, and see the museum in the war memorial pagoda at the rear of the complex.
Nagano itself is a nice prefectural capital surrounded by forested mountains. In the good late autumn weather it was beautiful and we enjoyed wandering the small streets finding little restaurants and stores, and looking at the interesting mix of old and very new architecture.
We didn't visit any of the popular museums and galleries as after almost 4 weeks in Japan we were "museumed out", but did stumble across the Nishinomon-Yoshinoya Sake Brewery which is well worth a visit, and had lunch at Unaginoyado Sumiyoshi - a well-regarded unagi restaurant.
There are also lots of scenic and nature locations to visit in the surrounding hills, but you need more time than we had to enjoy them.
Overall, Nagano was a bit of a surprise package and being just 1½ hours from Tokyo by Shinkansen I would recommend a visit as part of any Japan itinerary.

Handly location to use as a base for surrounding areas like Matsumoto and Obuse. Just be aware the train to Obuse is not on the JR or the IC/Suica/Pasmo and you'd need cash to buy the ticket.

Many different activities available in the area - cultural, historical, and natural. The Togakushi Shrine Pilgrimage and Kamikochi National Park were my favorites. Excellent souvenir shopping on the street in front of Zenkoji Temple. The city is very walkable. The train from Tokyo provides easy access. During hot summer months it is cooler in Nagano.
The location was fantastic, next to Nagano station. The staff spoke different languages and were extremely helpful. Our train time had to be changed and we arrived very early in Nagano so we were very pleased to be able to leave our luggage. The rooms were comfortable and warm which we very much appreciated. The best part was that although the breakfast buffet was not as big as other hotels we have stayed at in Japan, the quality of the Items were high and varied - we enjoyed the two breakfasts we had at this hotel - it was delicious!
Great location right in the street of the Tsukiji temple with lots of charming shops, coffee shops and a great apple pie shop (Beni beni) all within 50 meters. The ryokan is great value and an absolute recommendation for some one who want to try an authentic Japanese hotel experience. Dinner was delicious and opulent. Good wifi and relatively comfortable futon. The common bath was very relaxing (I had it all to myself). Staff spoke Japanese only but were very friendly and the language did not create any issues to me.
The hotel is very close to the Nagano station.
The receptionist was very gentle and helped us a lot during our stay (even though his English was not perfect, he was very helpful and we really appreciated his kindness, a big thanks to him).
The room was clean and a lot of amenities (comparing to other hotels) are available in the lobby.
The breakfast was a buffet with a mix of Japanese and continental dishes, I really appreciated the local juices.
The ryokan is only steps away from Zenko-Ji temple and thus very convenient to go to the monks procession and chanting at 5:30 am.
We had a traditional Japanese room and it was a nice experience. Also enjoyed the public bath house in the ryokan.
A bus from the train station took about 50 minutes to get to the beginning of the 2 km. walk up to the snow monkeys park. There are a few food places and restrooms.
This hotel is perfectly situated close to the station and near eateries. We got in late with heavy bags so it was a relief to only have to walk a couple of minutes from the station to the hotel.
Breakfast is generous with breads and fruit and yogurt as well as a full Japanese selection of rice and noodles, fish, sausage and bacon.
A short walk from the main Nagano train station across an overpass bridge. The staff were lovely and rooms were easily the largest we had for the same cost on our Japan trip.
The rooms were a bit older, but well maintained and extremely clean, with comfortable beds.
Would recommend for anyone staying in the Nagano city area.
Good Japanese breakfast that we were happy to pay for. Little but clean room walking distance from the main train station. Quiet, clean place. We were all energized the next day and walked to the Zenkoji Temple which was the highlight of our one day visit before the start of our Nakasendo Trail walk
The staff were extremely kind and helpful. They helped store my luggage before my check in window and when I checked in and when to my room, the luggage was already there! It's very close to the station and easy to find. The room is a little bigger than the average hotel rooms in Japan.
We have always stay at the Dormy Inn branches whenever we visited Japan. Its location is usually within a 8 minutes walk from the train station.
The Dormy Inn Nagano is about a 5 minutes walk across from the Nagano Station with many eateries around the area.
Near the Nagano train station. There're a lot of restaurants around. The room's was Japanese standard which had enough space but not spacious. They had pillow of choice and amentities at the first floor for guests.Western style breakfast was delicious.
The hotel is attached to Nagano Station, which made for easy access back and forth. Staff was friendly and helpful. Lots of shopping and restaurants are attached. We enjoyed many snacks from different kiosks and also did a little souvenir shopping.
Hotel room was huge compared to other rooms in japan. We were put on the 14th floor with beautiful views of the city and mountains. Staff was wonderful, and the restaurant had above average wood fire pizza. About a 15 minute walk to nagano station.
Very good customer service! We accidentally booked smoking room and they switched our rooms. Very clean and modern hotel right next to the JR station. Free breakfast buffet that includes both Japanese and western options. Very happy with our stay!
We had the opportunity to cheaply upgrade to a bigger room. The location was great and right next the train station in the middle of Nagano. It was spacious, clean and welcoming. Had all the facilities and amenities we expected for this price.
The location was excellent and the beds were super comfy! For being so close to the station, it was very quiet. The staff was super helpful to us who only speak English. The room is small but not unexpected for Japan.
The hotel is super clean. The staff clearly take pride in their work. The location is excellent. It is right in front of Nagano Station, so 2 minutes to the tracks. The room is small but all the amenities are there.
The hotel was across the street from the train station and bus terminal. The room was clean but had older furnishings. There's a 7-Eleven next door. Had an excellent dinner at the restaurant.
Staff was very friendly. Hotel is walking distance from Nagano station and easy to walk to the main strip of shops and restaurants. Signs that show local events were really helpful!
Very close to main station an easy 10 min walk
Very clean and spacious for a Japanese hotel room
Staff were typically Japanese with a great sense of professionalism and diligence
