We loved the pool and the garden! Perfect for relaxing after exploring the ancient city in the heat. The owner and his son who managed the hotel were incredibly friendly and kind. They went out of their way to ensure that I had a fantastic breakfast that catered to my dietary needs (gluten free). Tishan is situated about 15 min away (by car) from the ancient ruins and the town of Polonnaruwa itself.

We most liked that the owner is so passionate about his resort. He loved to show us around in his beautifull garden and everything in the resort is thought of and well functioning. The sister of the owner is an excellent cook and she makes a great Sri Lankan breakfast. Each day a bit different but always delicious and plentifull. Same holds for the optional dinner.
Owner also has good deals and friendly and knowledgeable friends for excursions to the temples and Sigiriya and safari. We left to see other places but actually we didn't want to leave this little paradise.

The site seeing of historical places were the best.
The site seeing of historical places were the best. Most of the time we ate at the hotel and visited some locals and shared a meal with them. We hired a vehicle during the tour, This gave us the flexibility to get around. Net time I'll try to get there in the cooler months, mid December.

Lot of ancient locations and relics.
Lot of ancient locations and relics. Can gain much information about historical Polonnaruwa era of Sri Lanka. Spread is in close vicinity and can cover all areas even without a travel guide. My favourite places were Parakrama Samudraya, museum, King Parakramabahu's castle and office, Gal Viharaya, Thiwanka Pilima geya, Vatadage, Hetadage and Sathmahal Prasadaya.
There are places to eat in Polonnaruwa new town (Very close by). We dined at NS Tomatoes where the service was good.

Polonnaruwa has impressive archeological and historic areas which are in good conditions despite of the years. The Minneriya National Park, the Dambulla cave temple and the Sigiriya Rock are also near and it makes Polonnaruwa a perfect base to visit all of them. We would strongly recommend to others.

We stayed about 14km outside polonnaruwa on lake giritale.
We stayed about 14km outside polonnaruwa on lake giritale. We got a tuk tuk into town (1500 rupees) and hired bikes for the day (1000 rupees each). We found a cycle route online and followed that, which took us to all the main sites. It was hot but we had a great time. Stop for a drink at the EKO hotel on the lake- a great spot!
One of the highlights of our whole trip! Opali and his family are pretty much the nicest, most welcoming people we ever met. Food was amazing and the room very spacious. We had great talks and Opali told us a lot about his life and Sri Lankas situation. He even did a night walk with us where we saw lots of animals. Also, the place is perfectly located if you want to visit the ancient city, you can even rent bikes directly at the house. In Polonnaruwa I would go there again any time. Highly recommended!!
This is a delightful place to stay. So many good aspects to consider: friendly and kind staff, delicious meals, quiet location not far from the sightseeing, ability to arrange excursions and onward journey, wildlife on property: monkeys, deer, birds…, laundry service, ability to call in craftsmen to display their wares. And the meals…they are soooo good. And..suggest you ask your host any questions you can think of about Sri Lanka…you will learn a lot from his straightforward answers.
This is the first time we are visiting Srilanka and this was the first hotel we booked for accomodation in this trip.To our surprise the hotel was really fantastic with swimming pool, dining area, situated in the accessible location and surrounding. We were given excellent hospitality by the hotel staffs. They were friendly and helped us by arranging tuk tuk. They provided us tasty breakfast and I highly recommend this hotel 👍👍👍
We were treated like family. It felt like our home. The family who owns and operates the hotel are the nicest, sweetest people we met in Sri Lanka. The hotel has good AC, reliable hot water, is clean and has a nice breakfast. It is in a quiet neighborhood very close to the ruins, and you can walk to the reservoir to watch gorgeous sunsets. The family was a highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka. We cannot thank them enough.
Best place to stay in Polonnaruwa according to me. The house is in the nature and very close to the temples. We had great discussions about the country and got to learn more about Sri Lankan. Our host made us an amazing rice and curry and we went on a night walk to see wild animals. We have been able to rent great bikes to visite the temples. I really recommend!
the room was super clean with air condition er,the host was so welcome,we went to have drinks together and go by the lake, and very safe for solo female travellers, this day really made my trip so much more magical, everything was perfect, thanks to the arani family!!(oh and especially bigggg sri lanka breakfast included, i was so surprised
Absolutely amazing hotel, very clean and spacious rooms, perfect location (5 mins from ticket office, 15 from polonnaruwa sacred city entrance), friendly stuff and hotel owner. Excellent breakfast, very tasty. I wish you all the best in the future! Will choose this hotel again, when I come back to this city
Our stay at Hotel Anaulundawa was exceptional, with special mention to the outstanding service by Nimal. The rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was delightful, featuring excellent fruit choices. Ample parking space and a tranquil location added to the overall charm. Highly recommend!
It’s a decent place to stay if you visit the area. The territory of the hotel is nice and the stuff is helpful if you ask them to.
When we asked them about additional blankets, they brought us some and they helped us we bags. The view from the rooms is nice.
A hotel in a very lovely environment.Large rooms with beautiful forest view.. We Can see many animals and birds from the room.Very friendly staff and the food was delicious... Also the hotel is closer to polonnaruwa ancient city.
The hotel is close to Ancient City, only 10 minutes walk. Hosts are hospitable people and can help with everything. They also can give bicycles and umbrellas. Room was clean with 2 big beds, no problems with a hot water.
