Attentive and welcoming staff. They are consistently asking for feedback. Looks like continuous improvement is in place there. Room was clear.

Recommend staying in larger hotels. Not easily walkable due to safety concerns and aggressive begging/selling everywhere. We became very ill after eating at two large hotels. Ensure use of only sealed water, even for personal care. Would plan for short stays in the capital, have transportation and activities preplanned. Air quality is very bad due to constant burning of fields. Three of four people in our group were robbed the first day they ventured out to the market nearby. Safety limited ability to explore the area. Traffic is horrible. Bring candy or school supplies if venturing into the countryside, and bring your generous heart, as a little goes very far here.

This is not a wealthy 1st world city, as long as you are happy with that, you will enjoy it.
There is a lot of old culture here, some local, and lots mainly from Colonial times.
Taxis....plenty, but negotiate the price first or you may regret it !. The city is very crowded, so it gets gridlocked easily.
Food...generally street food and smaller restaurants are very cheap, the local rums are to die for, and there are too many to ever try them all.
Bring Lomatil...this is a must.

The price is really reasonable and people and food are nice. Traffic and air condition are awful. It was my first visit to Africa so being there itself was really unusually nice but I think people like clean freaks might hate this city :)

Busy city but there’s not loads to do, a few days is perfect I stayed too long. Restaurants on the other hand were incredible. You do get hassled by people trying to make you buy things but if you’re polite but firm they will leave you alone after they’ve told you everything. It’s a fun place to experience a different market culture but as always beware of pickpockets

Tana shows the (great) poverty of the many, and the wealth...
Tana shows the (great) poverty of the many, and the wealth of the very few. Everywhere you go, the people try to make a living on the street, with little stalls or just a blanket, selling literally everything. Trips of about 5-6 km may take you well over two hours by car/taxi. Walking is not an alternative. The sheer amount of people on the streets during the day is just mind boggling.
Really excellent service from all staff in this centrally located hotel. Nothing seemed to be too much bother for any of them. From the midnight airport pickup with a known and trusted driver to hailing taxis and organising a fixed fare return journey. Although rated 3 star this heritage hotel punches well above its weight. Definitely recommend to travellers wishing for authenticity. BTW breakfast selection is amazing and wonderfully cooked and presented.
Karim (staff member) was great. During our first stay at Samsara, one of us left behind a camera and didn’t realize it. A week later I was back at the hotel, and Karim came up to me and gave the camera back to me — we hadn’t even known we had left it there. What an honest gentleman. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, and their English is good enough to communicate, even if not fluent.
It took us 2+ hrs to clear immigration, luggage, customs, and Covid at the Ivato airport…but the hotel shuttle bus was still there waiting for us when we finally made it outside! The hotel is close to the airport which was great after a very long journey to Madagascar. Hotel facilities are quite nice. There is a restaurant on property and breakfast was included in our stay.
A good breakfast was included. It was most sufficient for filling up before a day of touring, joining a tour/trip, or flying. The area around the hotel is safe to walk for banking, groceries, and restaurants, but going to see most anything will require a taxi, as there is nothing of interest in the immediate area. The complimentary airport transfer was welcome.
open air, well decorated with fossils and carvings and plants, picturesque hotel with 2 open patios in the upper level and enclosed restaurant. Staff was incredibly helpful (arranged a driver for round trip to Lemur Park, over an hour each way) and very attentive. Top floor rooms are probably the best: duplex with staircase and skylight
The location was convenient and close to the airport.
The staff were generally friendly.
We were grateful to be able to arrange a ride with NM hotel for a ride from and to the airport.
We liked the interesting and funky local art displayed throughout the hotel.
The food was generally good. Just the lamb dinner was tough.
-Staff were polite and very helpful .
-The cleaner always had a smile .
-Security guards very attentive
-Mr Dina (the owner) was the best hotel manager that I have ever encountered in any hotel I have ever stayed at.
-Sandra and Josty receptionist stay helped at all times .
-The location of the hotel was ideally
Excellent hotel with modern rooms, superior room with wonderful waterfront views, a lovely rooftop restaurant, a heated pool and very professional and friendly staff. All our requests were fulfilled. I would like to return to a hotel with such a level of customer focus more than once.
Beautiful Hotel with big rooms a 3 minute drive away from the airport. The bring and pick you u from the airport. The rooftop pool is nice and clean and the room are nicly decorated. The restaurant is really good as well.
The ambiance created by the massive collection of antiques is truly unique. The fact that the collection was created by buying antiques from locals bringing their pieces to the hotel since 1960, adds to the charm.
The hotel and the Service is amazing. However the windows are not good and it sounds like they are open because there is no sound isolation and the Hotel is in general ridcolously expensive for Madagascar.
