The best place to stay near the Chichen Itza pyramids. Clean and charming. The small pool is very welcomed!

This hotel was such a wonderful place to be. Set back from the main road, with all the buildings nestled in the trees. We stayed in the suite and it was so lovely for the price. Staff were very helpful and sweet. The upper pool area was very relaxing and we had lunch served to the beach beds. Not sure what’s going on with the bigger lower pool, looked a bit dilapidated but didn’t bother us because we used the other one. You need a car there. We went to Chichenitza one morning at 8:30 and beat the crowds, it’s about 10 mins away by car.

Luis is a great host. Super friendly and the breakfast he made us was really good. The garden is magical, full of fruit trees. I would definitely stay again if in the area.

Get there early and head to the Osuary complex so you can have it all to yourself. Most people go the other way. The night show was cool, but not required, the daytime is a requirement for every explorer!

Stay in Valladolid and drive-- or better yet stay in Piste- and walk to the ruins and get there when they open at 8am. On the Sunday morning we arrived at 830am, there were less than 25 people that we could see-- total-- and no vendors yet. Our photos of the main pyramids have literally zero other people in the background, and we saw lots of colorful birds and enjoyed the empty grounds.
By the time we left at 11:30am, there were 3 or 4 thousand people there, mostly arriving on tour buses from Cancun, and the vendors were aggressive and noisy and it was less appealing of a destination. YES get there as early as possible.

Always impressive to visit but too crowded and touristy the last couple of times. The parking lot was only available for tour vans and buses so struggled outside to find a parking spot. Had to walk 600 meters to get to the ticket booth. Next time I'd go as early as they open to avoid crowds, heat and parking issues.

Chichen Itza is amazing!
Chichen Itza is amazing! Well worth suffering the heat and bugsI (even in February)
There are lots of vendors selling their wares. I've read that they are not usually handmade, which would explain why so many things were only ONE Dollar! Heard someone say not to buy wooden masks etc as they would not pass customs.
Bring: hat, bug spray, sunblock, water.
C.I. is very isolated. There are tour buses that take you from Cancun to CI.
It's a full day and usually about $120 dollars. Be careful not to confuse dollars and mexican pesos. At this time the peso is about 20 cents so 100 pesos is $5 dollars. I recommend bringing a debit card and some mexican $. ( Can be purchased beforehand at AAA)
Wear sturdy closed toe shoes as it is very dusty and rocky. No stairs, however. If you take a tour, they will feed you lunch about 2 pm. Bring snacks if you are accustomed to eating lunch earlier.
Be on top of your email and messages as the tour originally said they would pick me up at my hotel, but changed to another hotel the day prior to the tour.
If you don't take a tour, I would rent a car. Bus and taxi connections aren't the best. I took a taxi from Mayalands hotel to Valladodid for about $35. Then I took a bus to Cancun central bus station, then a taxi to the airport. I spent about $75 and it took the better part of the day.
Taxi's from Mayalands to the airport run about $200 US.
BTW, the tour takes you to a cenote where you can swim. Bring your suit and a towel, plus water shoes. The trek at ILKIL was about 100 stairs and slippery.
One last thing, as of February 2022, one must wear a mask in Mexico ALL THE TIME.

It’s definitely worth it booking a tour guide as there’s so many details that need to be pointed out in order to appreciate the experience. Though most guides seemed to be asking for 900 pesos, which felt too steep. So we were actually very lucky to find a guide called Miguel who goes around in a little car (as he’s disabled), who charged us 500 pesos and gave us an amazing tour.
Also, you’ll find there’s LOTS of art & souvenirs for sale, and they’ll quote you double the price if you can’t speak Spanish… so I’d suggest waiting until the end and buying whatever you like after you’ve seen all the stalls and haggle!

This ancient Mayan ruin is well preserved and maintained.
This ancient Mayan ruin is well preserved and maintained. Kukulcan is amazing but you cannot access or climb it. Doing this ruin with a guide was essential as the experience would have been much less without the knowledge a guide has.
We stayed at Mayaland just for one night on our way to visit Chichen Itza. The location of the property is really great! Before Covid there was access to the ruins with a 10min walk but it was closed. So the hotel took us there with their shuttle free of charge. It’s about a 7min ride. We also got a tour guide from the hotel and Jaime was really amazing. He waited for us to get breakfast and he took his time explaining everything in English. They also gave us a late check out. All in all, they were really focusing on customer satisfaction.
we loved our stay with Luis! The room is large, the beds comfortable, the small Mayan village was friendly, and the breakfast was over the top. The location is very close to Chichen Itzá, but a million miles away from the hub nub of all the tourists. The birds are wonderful on the property and it’s great to walk around the village. Everyone is friendly. Luis gave us great tips about little known ruins and cenotes in the area. He is an amazing host. we loved it there!
Huge room, nice pool. Friendly supportive staff. Dream-location near the temples, with the sounds of the jungle.
Restaurant appeared to be very good and we returned there even. We don't do that normally. Also, during the day
you can have lovely snacks/drinks at the pool which is great when you come back after some hours at Chichen Itza, which
is really nearby and you can be there, long before the crowds come. We loved it !
The hotel was 2km and a 6 minute drive to Chichen Itza so perfect to visit the site and get there when it opened at 8am. This was the reason we booked this hotel so was pefect for our needs! The food was basic but fine and what we expected from this hotel. The breakfast consisted of tea, coffee and eggs with bread. The pool was a nice touch but the loungers weren't very clean.
Nice clean rooms in older hotel. More like a motel with connected rooms opening to the outside. Good restaurant, simple good breakfast. Friendly helpful staff. Two clean swimming pools. It's in the jungle across from a Cenote, and ten minutes to the entrance to Chichen Itza. Only down side was low or no wifi in the room I had to use outdoor seating near the office.
We used this hotel for 1 night before we visited Chichen Itza ruins (in walking distance, about 2,2 km ) and super beautiful cenote Ik- Kil (about 6 km). Small pearl, hidden in center of town Piste. Comfortable beds and friendly staff, free parking in closed garden. Small pool for using and refreshing. Supermarket in next corner. Recommend.
The hotel exceeded all our expectations. We were only gonna stay one night. And booked the hotel because of the location. Looking back, we could easily have stayed longer and spend more time at the pool.
The atmosphere was nice, the restaurant brilliant. Dinner and breakfast both great. Perfect location to go and see Chichen Itza.
The property was gorgeous, secluded, and very comfortable. Staff was friendly, and helpful when I needed directions around town. Really enjoyed the restaurant, and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to visit Chichén Itzá - staying a five-minute drive away from the site was perfect.
This is a very peaceful place. Nice very clean room. We were there on a slow Monday but all services were available and dinner was good.
Perfect place to get an early start at Chichen Itza which is essential because of the crowds and heat. It is about five minutes away.
This is a gorgeous, stylish hotel with a lot of history. The view from our room was incredible. Everything was clean and tidy and the food was excellent. The Chichen Itza tour guide organised by the hotel was knowledgeable, professional and friendly.
The hotel is in beautiful buildings in landscaped grounds and really close to Chichen Itza. The staff were very helpful and arranged our trip to the site and organised a guide (all very reasonable). They provided transport too.
Luis is an amazing host, kindhearted , superfriendly and made us feel like home! magnificent host, amazing breakfast, good location. Also Luis gave us good suggestions while visiting Chichen Itza and nearby cenotes. Thank you!
The owners, Joel and Vanessa, were very welcoming and made us feel like family. They had wonderful recommendations on where to eat and gave us valuable information about visiting Chichen Itza and Cenotes in the area.
