Tulaja hotel is not a '3*** Boutique' the way we use this word in Europe.
Positives: It's hosted in a traditional house 3min from main Durbar square. Good cleaning, comfy beds. Very reasonably priced at 25EUR/night.
Negatives: the pictures on Booking have little to do with the reality. Our quadruple room had a bathroom 1sqmt size, impossible to have a shower. Breakfast without buffet, you just get a plate with the food of their choice. We had a room on the 3rd floor with NO ELEVATOR only steep stairs, and this is not well mentioned on Booking :-(

5 nights stay with friends , we needed to extend by one night. The owner ask me to move into another room for the last night. I booked the same room category. While similar in size it had no TV , water kettle, the shower head was dysfunctional, a noisy washing machine next to my room and the airflow not as good as my original higher floor room. Breakfast is good. The floors are dusty. A family lives on the upper floor with children drifting around the stairwell in the morning. The noise can be heard in every room below. The best asset is the friendly house staff , especially the house boy. Info update:You need to buy a 1800NPR ticket for the entire old city it’s valid 7 days in the past years it was just for the most inner city. That was new to me - overall a decent stay with room for improvement.

It was a quiet setting with outlook to the farms. The management and staff were wonderful. We also took a very cheap but excellent tour to the Durbar square and an arranged transfer to the airport.

The hotel is perfectly located just outside the main square, the rooms are nice & clean - great value for what you pay. I have been traveling a lot in my life, but I never saw such a beautiful city. Eventhough, the dramatical earthquake , all the buildings and temples have been fixed with the old materiel.
Walking by night in Bhaktapur in those small street is like to be in the middle age. Bhaktapur is a travel through the time.

Nice place to stay for a couple of hours.
Nice place to stay for a couple of hours. If someone like spiritual places, definitely the right location. A lot of places are still under construction, since the earthquake, so the 55th window palace was closed.

Bhaktapur is still recovering from the 2015 earthquake which created havoc with the local historic buildings. However, much has been done though. The place is doing it's best to get back into a reasonable position however COVID has taken its toll on the local industry and tourist venues (small shops and traders as well as the restaurants and hotels - a large number of which were closed when I visited.)
I have visited many times and it still retains a special charm - photographic opportunities are always present, whether the buildings, the people or the views of the mountains - still is a magical place.
Oh, (like other places in Nepal) the people are so friendly - they stop and ask if you need help but just want to be helpful, with no pushy sales pitch or offering of a ride to other local attractions.

The best part is always its food. I just can't stop myself from eating Newari khaja set( Newari cultural food) and juju dhau ( special curd ) . Also, this time they had the facility of boating in Siddha Pokhari and it was a lot of fun paddling oneself.

One of the best places of Kathmandu.
One of the best places of Kathmandu. You will definitely want to stay longer than your original intend. We extended our stay there for 2 extra nights (4 nights in total) People are friendly, the old city is very beautiful. (If you intend to stay more than 1 night, be careful to ask to write down your passport number on your entrance ticket to the old city, otherwise you will have to pay the entrance multiple times..)

A number of attractions in old town well worth seeing.
A number of attractions in old town well worth seeing. Some earthquake damage has spoilt a few though. Some restaurants overpriced and over rated in certain guides. Typical of many places all over the world though. Short walks outside old town worth the effort. Out passed Ram Ghat to hill top gives good view of Himalayas, for instance and chance to see more local people untouched by tourism.
Our second visit after a seven year gap. It is certainly the most atmospheric, historic small hotel (really a historic building) in Bhaktapur and overlooks the square that is the centre of festival and celebration life of the city (and the least affected by the past earthquake damage and ongoing restoration needs). So tremendous location, with frequent musical processions outside. Free high quality coffee. Breakfast is good. The staff and owner are always responsive.
This hotel is such a gem! Not only it is located in the middle of old town which is super convenient but also it is very cosy, clean with comfortable beds and hot water. However the best thing about this hotel are the staff who always welcome you with a smile and are happy to help with any queries and want to make your stay as perfect as possible. Special thanks to Om/Aum (not sure about spelling) who was kind enough to walk me all the way to the bus stop at 6am 🙏
Everything! The location is perfect, just 1 minute walk from Durbar square. Around the hotel there are plenty of coffee shops and restaurants. The hotel is newly and traditionally furnished. The staff is truly amazing! The owner and his wife are very kind people who help us with everything, including organising a taxi to go back to KTM at the end of our stay. They also made yomari for breakfast during a national festival!
Highly recommended hotel in Bhaktapur.
We liked our stay at the hotel, the staff was very friendly, not intrusive but still very helpful in case of any questions. They also let us change our room to one with balcony as we requested. Comparing to our other stays in Nepal, the breakfast was delicious and diverse. The breakfast is also served on the rooftop, where you get a nice view over the roofs of Bhaktapur. The location in general is super, 1 min walk from Durbar Square.
Thagu Chhen was a great mix of traditional and modern architecture and far more reasonably priced than some of the other "traditional" style hotels. The facilities were good and the room comfortable but the best part was definitely the view out over the old capital of Bhaktapur. The hotel was only a 5 minute walk from all the beautiful world heritage sights on offer, which the staff were happy to recommend.
Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the friendly reception staff ,she makes our trip more interesting with her advices & tips about the city ,supermarket ,shops, restaurants bars are within walking distance. Would definitely recommend this hotel to everybody! It's a true sample of excellent hospitality. Thank you again Swastika for going just that little step extra for the guests!!!
The room was very clean and cozy. The bed was also comfartable. Hot water was fine. The location of the hotel is perfect ; almost in the Durbar square. Shops and other restaurants are very close.. Anand is very helpfull with a smiling face. Highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Bhaktapur. I wish Icould have stayed more. I will definitely be there for my next trip to Bhaktapur.
This hotel is in a fantastic location just on the corner of Durbar Square. The staff were very friendly and ready to help at all times. My room was very clean, comfortable and spacious. A fantastic breakfast was served on the rooftop with a great view of the square. I will definitely stay at Hotel Adam again if I ever make it back to beautiful Bahktapur in the future.
i reached the hotel very late . Around 1 am at night. But still there were staff to welcome me . The hotel staff " Rohan " was very kind and helpful. They offered me dinner at night which was so generous of them ... Felt like a family in short period .
Hotel is very near to Durbar square( Major attraction). A must go to place to all travellers.
The hotel is very central, just behind Durbar square and you can walk to the many places of interest. The hotel and the room are very very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They kindly moved me to a bigger room as I needed more space for yoga. There is also a nice terrace where breakfast is served. Will definitely stay again.
We loved this small boutique hotel. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and the shared dining space was gorgeous. The staff were all extremely helpful, including calling us a car to get back to Kathmandu. Note: It’s an old building, so the ceilings are low. I didn’t mind, but it was tough for my tall husband.
Everything!
The hotel is small but cosy and details are brought to a level much higher than the price payed. Breakfast is simple and delicious. And the family running the place is lovely and helpful.
From the rooftop you have an amazing sunset.
And it is located next to the most important square in Bakthapur
Planet Bhaktapur Hotel is ideally situated away from the bustle and noise yet the old town is conveniently near. Room and bed comfortable, garden delightful, menu has ample choices, both Italian and Nepali, and all delicious. Super nice, helpful staff.
Nice property with basic rooms right on Durbar Square in Bhaktapur. Walk out the door straight into the square. Very friendly staff, accommodating and pleasant. Small restaurant within the hotel itself and some beverage supplies
Very large and clean room with modern bathroom, A/C and comfy beds. Super central right on Durbar Square. Tasty breakfast on rooftop terrace. Nice and helpful staff. All around recommendable.
Being in the middle of Bhaktapur and easy access to shopping, temples and Durbar Square.
We lived having breakfast on the roof top every morning and the classical Nepalese architecture
Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. We loved that the hotel looks over Durbar square. The staff were super friendly and the rooms were very comfortable. Thank you!
