If you have dreamed of having your own private beach...Vieques is for you! Bring everything you need because there are no facilities on the beaches. Most of the remote beaches on the east side are closed due to stray bombs. They do not advertise this fact well. The social climate on Vieques is somewhat hostile. The vendors are dishonest, trying to rip you off. Lots of rude people, drunks and bums. A fistfight and shouting match broke out on our ferry ride. The locals and strays seem to be annoyed by the masses of tourists. The restaurants are a bit expensive. Overall it's a huge hassle getting to the island and then finding a car/cart. You're probably better off staying on the big island beaches. That being said, it's a beautiful spot and there's some nice snorkeling spots.AndrewUnited States - 8.0Scored 8.0
We came to see the BioBay.
We came to see the BioBay. It is quite a chore to get over there, so make it worth your while! We ate at Bananas and talked with a few of the locals. Got to see the wild horses that are all around the island. Enjoyed a sunset walk oceanside.BeckyUnited States - 10Scored 10

Vieques is gorgeous! There are so many beach opportunities.
Vieques is gorgeous! There are so many beach opportunities. We visited only four beaches on this trip since we spent only one day on Vieques. However, we loved driving across the island on a golf cart and taking in all the scenes. The horses everywhere give it a magical feel, and everyone is so friendly and laid back. Make sure to have cash as many vendors/food trucks don't take cards. The bio bay is INCREDIBLE and should be on everyone's bucket list!!DeniseUnited States - 10Scored 10
If you just want to get away and relax Vieques is the place...
If you just want to get away and relax Vieques is the place to go. Not a lot to do here, simply enjoy the beaches and relax. Easy to travel around island. Love all the horses roaming the island. Ferry easy and safe and inexpensive. Love the bio bay tour of the bioluminescence at night. Real highlight. Food on island was delicious.

If you have car, you're totally set. We also lived the property itself. Our room was perfect for our family of four, with a full kitchen so we didn't have to eat out if we really didn't want to. The new owners, Todd and Amanda, were awesome, and they had pretty much all the beach gear we needed (towels, snorkels, etc.). All in all, it is an excellent place to stay.

The hostel is on one of the main streets of Vieques island. You can walk on the footpath along the shore that's right in front of the hostel. The hostel had clean and ample washrooms and bathing rooms. There was a cute verandah which also has a bookshelf. We ended up reading a book taken from the shelf. The kitchen next to the verandah is big and clean.

The guest house is in a good location that makes it easy to get to the N and S sides of the island. The guesthouse has a nice game room with a fridge. They provide beach towels free of charge. They gave us a hand made key chain which was a nice touch. While the rooms are clean, the common areas have many small piles of chicken and peacock poop that are not cleaned, but left to dry. They offered to take me to the beaches close by at a very reasonable price and they also rented their snorkel gear. Yashei took care of me like family and helped me get to the next destination as well. I’d definitely recommend staying at Yashei’s. :)
