Papal Palace
In the Middle Ages, the papacy left its traditional home of Rome and set up shop in Avignon. This amazing palace was the papal residence throughout the 14th century, and is part of the rich legacy left behind from the popes’ temporary change of scenery. Don’t miss the Chapel of St John, which stands out for its stunning frescoes.

It is very interesting and loved seeing it.
It is very interesting and loved seeing it. Buy tickets on line if you can to save standing in lines or go early in the day. Note there are a lot of stone steps to climb and although the garden is nice it is not worth the extra cost. We found out the hard way that if you go in the garden to exit the garden you have to climb up a round circular steps back into the palace. The guard did not like it that we went back down into the garden as my fear of heights kicked in.

Get there early so you can go on to somewhere else.
Get there early so you can go on to somewhere else. If you are walking make sure you are not being guided by sings for drivers. When I went there I tried to work out my way back and ended up about a third of the way round the city wall from where I wanted to go/ I got so lost I couldn't explain to a bus driver what part of the city I was going/ it took me 90 minutes to sort myself out.

Great location, 10 mins walk from the station, good restaurants in the street and mins walk from Papal palace. Well curated breakfast. But the X factor is the wonderful hotelier. She was knowledgeable, readily available to assist and overall really impressive.
The location was fantastic. It could not have been better located. It was within the walled city and immediately adjacent to the main square. It was about 100 metres from the papal palace, and it was an easy walk from the train station (about 10-15 mins walking straight down one road). The Pont d'Avignon was also close to the hotel. The hotel itself was good and there was variety for breakfast.
Spacious and comfortable apartment, has everything you need for life. The balcony offers an unforgettable view of the papal palace and the historical center. Very comfortable beds. The heating works well, this is important in winter. There are no problems with warm water in the shower. Good communication with the owner, check-in went without any problems.
My wife and I traveling with a friend booked this two bedroom apartment on the second floor. The apartment was wonderful, clean and equipped. We were in easy walking distance to the Papal palace and found nice restaurants close by. The only issues we had were with Avignon. Parking is just this side of difficult. We parked in the deck at the Papal Palace, a bit pricey but an easy walk.
Perfect location - 15 min walk from Papal palace and generaly the Old Town. Apartment itself located on very silent street, away from main crowded places. Apartment comfortable and cousy as we expected, with quite new furniture. It has even a laundry equipment wich can be relevant for families during longer stay.
Very spacious suits with 2-room space, comfy big beds (they have 2 double sized beds in each room which worked really great for us), big bathroom, lots of space for cloths. Public parking is nearby with direct access to the hotel. Great location: Papal Palace is 15 min away as well as most of best restaurants in the city and still you can conveniently park the car. Nice view.
The hotel's location is superb, on the main, mostly pedestrian, street in the middle of the old town, right by the Papal Palace, but also handy to the train station. The hotel is clean and up-to-date and the staff very welcoming. There is a lift and a free coffee bar on the ground floor, as well as a kettle and tea/coffee supplies in the rooms. The window in our room had double glazing and was very quiet.
What can we say? This was an incredible city to visit and a superb hotel for our stay. The hotel was built in 1670 as a personal mansion just across the street from the backside of the Papal Palace. Everything about this hotel from the elegant room to the palatial common areas downstairs take you back 500 years, but with modern conveniences. All of the staff were friendly and very helpful. We cannot recommend this hotel enough.
The host, Cristel was very warm, welcoming and helpful. Our train was delayed but she kept in touch and arrived herself with the keys as her staff was unavailable then, and provided assistance with the luggage as the apartment is on the 3rd floor. Similarly, she made sure that we got assistance even while leaving.
She gave us all possible information including restaurants etc..
The apartment is well located and close to the river, the Papal palace and to the Main Street.
The apartment was very clean , chic and stylish.

The completeness of the mediaeval buildings (and painted surfaces), lack of traffic, excellent audioguide to the Papal palace and the detail about the status of Avignon as a frontier town before its absorption into France - plenty of personalities and incidents
