In the Rio Dulce river near a 16th century castle the Tortugal Boutique River Lodge peninsula is bathed by almost constant on shore breezes providing a cool and refreshing place. What did we like? All of it! The rooms are tastefully decorated. They were very comfy, despite being in the middle of nature. Attentive staff, picked us up to and fro Rio Dulce. Good food, cold beers. Very refreshing to be able to jump in the river when hot!

El Hotelito Perdido is a little jungle hideaway located in a middle of Rio Dulce National Park. Everything 😊 It’s a little gem of a place in a paradise setting! Food is wonderful and you won’t go hungry that’s for sure. There’s plenty to do and it’s very affordable. The team (staff and owners) is super sweet and always there to help make your stay happy and easy. Thank you for such an amazing stay!!!

Set in Puerto Barrios, Hotel Posada Stella Maris offers 5-star accommodation with a garden and a shared lounge. There is big enough and clean room with nice moutain views balcony. Also there is shared kitchen can be used. Very warm and helpful host. It is located Santo Tomas de castile, easy to take a taxi ( 30 GTQ ) or chicken bus( 3GTQ) from puerto Barrios center. Recommend to take couple days to chill out. There is walkable to beach and waterfall. The accommodation fee all goes to charity.

Set in Izabal, 45 km from Castillo de San Felipe de Lara, Reserva Natural Cañón Seacacar offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant. Perfect place hidden in a small village. It’s the only accommodation in the village and has been build to help the local community. The first language in the village is Q’eqchi, the children are now learning Spanish in school from about age 5. The staff of the hotel is from the village and for them it is a place to learn and work in tourism. They are all very friendly and helpful. If you want to have a great Guatemalan experience in one of the most beautiful places of Guatemala, where the crowds don’t go (yet), this is where you want to go! I reached the hotel by a two hour trail that is insanely beautiful, constructed by the people of the village, easy to follow and a good climb to two wooden miradors with lake and jungle views. Always with the sound of absolutely fantastic river ‘sauce’ on the background. The next day I went down on a tube and they carried my bag down. The tubing in the river is what will drop your yaws!! Absolutely beautiful, a cañón with high Walls on both sides. Everything is well organized and clean. It absolutely worth a visit! I’m writing this review because I could not believe that I was the only tourist there (on a Saturday)! You will not regret your visit and you will probably (hopefully) write a similar review to help this village and the people creating a better future for there town. There are several projects ongoing, including deforestation! Go and enjoy jungle, river and peace while enjoying great food and comfortable accommodation(affordable too!)

I really enjoyed staying here. The location is so tranquil, right on the river. Staff super friendly and helpful. I would happily go back.

Hotel La Casa Rosada has a garden, terrace, a restaurant and bar in Lívingston. Among the facilities at this property are room service and a tour desk, along with free WiFi throughout the property. The location is really good because it's within walking distance to town and the boat to/from puerto barrios and also because it's by the water - it's got its own private dock where you can get picked up for boat tours both to playa blanca and río dulce. They serve good vegan options at the restaurant, although slightly pricey, very convenient. The rooms are hut like, very nice. Staff were good with booking tours/transport for us. There's a nice food place right in front of the main door with a lovely couple serving cheap local food.
