We have always done a lot of trips in almost all other European countries and we find that in Sweden, outside Stockholm, finding hotel choices of high standard is sadly very hard, they tend to be extremely overpriced, come linked with "experiences" that are mostly about drinking in well-decorated bar areas or sharing a spa with people who are drinking (drinking alcohol in the spa seems to be a highly valued activity) and we usually regret going. This is not the case here. This place is simple and beautiful. Elegant but no frills. Has everything you need (including a spa area if you are so inclined) in the nicest location. It is clean, the wifi works well, and it is overall a very relaxing experience. The best part is the food. Best breakfast ever, really pleasant. Last time we had dinner also (this time we were busy somewhere else) and I still remember it.

Set in Norrtälje, within 2 km of Östhamra, Berglings Boutique Hotell offers accommodation with a garden and free WiFi throughout the property. Loved the decoration, atmosphere , the typical Swedish house and the fact that we are leaving a real Swedish experience . And over all we love the family running the hotel !

Siggesta Gård is located in the countryside of Värmdö and offers a sun terrace, parking, bookable sauna and hot tub. WiFi are free for guests. This hotel was perfect for our weekend retreat. While located in the beautiful countryside, it's still easy to reach from Stockholm center. The room was spacious and nicely decorated, and the bed was extra comfy! We especially loved the breakfast buffet made from local organic ingredients.

Set by a fortress from 1735, this waterfront hotel on Värmdö Island offers impressive views of Solöfjärden and the surrounding archipelago. We wanted a break from hard travel and are so glad we chose Fredriksborg. The rooms are very simple with a terrific outlook. The location is remarkable, on a hill above the deep water channel going in and out of Stockholm. The first time we saw a huge ship gliding by above eye level was a happy surprise. The dinner served at their restaurant was superb. But the best of all is the staff. They take great pride in the history of the location and its role in the defense of Stockholm in centuries past. Pontus (spelling ?) went out of his way to show us the property as well as to drive us to the ferry for the return to Stockholm. We were very appreciative.

Surrounded by nature, Marholmen is located 350 metres from a private beach in the Roslagen Archipelago. The hotel offers an on-site restaurant. Awesome position on the island with possibilities to relax, but also hike, cayac or just take it easy and go for a walk.

Set in Stockholm’s beautiful archipelago, first-class hotel and conference centre Fågelbrohus offers a historic setting in Värmdölandet, just a 35 minute drive from the centre of Stockholm. Really nice outdoor pool and great that kids are not allowed in the evening shifts!. The food was also very good, and they serve a very complete breakfast. The staff was also very kind and helpful.

The Åtellet Hotell re-opened in April 2009. It is located at the mouth of the Norrtälje River, with the archipelago and sea at walking distance. Good breakfast, clean and comfortable rooms and nice stuff.
