At the ryokan, every unit has a wardrobe, a flat-screen TV, a shared bathroom, bed linen and towels. The units are fitted with a safety deposit box and certain rooms include river views. The units include a tatami. Extremely friendly staff. Great attention to detail. And the food is amazing (by far the best we have had in Japan).

Beautiful old ryokan with super friendly and helpful team; quality service (the pickup from the train station, the drive to the monkey park); delicious food and superb cappuccino. Really enjoyed the traditional rooms (sleeping on futons) and the relaxed atmosphere in the ryokan. And not to forget: access to the 9 onsen baths as a guest of the ryokan. Try them all, walking towards them in traditional Japanese yukata and gets. Enjoyed every second of being here!
Shibu Onsen, Yamanouchi

Nagiso
The spacious rooms at Fuki no Mori Hotel come with private bathrooms with free toiletries. All rooms have traditional decors, a seating area and a balcony with views. Most rooms have tatami (woven-straw) flooring with futon bedding. A beautiful luxury hotel set in forest outside Tsumago, with hotel shuttle bus access. Everything was perfect- from the warm welcome, being conducted to our room, shown the onsen and dining room, where breakfast and dinner were exceptional (in Keisei style and well worth the additional charge). It was a most relaxing stay after our Magome to Tsumago walk- 6 hours in drenching rain- but still very beautiful to be again on this marvellous walk.
Yudanaka Onsen, Yamanouchi
Bright rooms come with a traditional decor of tatami (woven-straw) floor, a low table with seating cushions and traditional futon bedding. They are fitted with a seating area, an LCD TV and a fridge. A safe and yukata robes are provided. Excellent all round. Lovely rooms, amazing onsens and the staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful. Food was exceptional too.

Guests sleep in Japanese-style rooms located in annex buildings. Fitted with tatami (woven-straw) flooring and futon bedding, the rooms feature a flat-screen TV and a seating area with a low table. Bathroom is shared with other guests. Everything’s so perfect ~~ The owner Oshi San was super helpful. The room is spacious and with view overlooking a garden. It’s so lovely with a green view in summer. It’s a quiet location so I sleep pretty well. And the meals prepared are Fresh and tasty. Highly recommended. [heart].

Japanese Yukata robes are provided and guests can enjoy views of the river or of the traditional stone-paved streets. Bathrooms and toilets are shared. Akira and his mother were incredibly accommodating and made us feel at home. They made me dinner and breakfast (gluten free and vegetarian) which was amazing. Their private Onsen is lovely and the room was really comfortable. Would highly recommend
Nozawa Onsen
Japanese-style rooms have a tatami (woven-straw) floor, a low table with seating cushions, and an LCD TV. They come with traditional futon bedding and yukata robes, while bathroom facilities are shared. Mr. Kadowakikan was super friendly and helpful. He picked us up and dropped us off at the shuttle bus stop. He helped us order rental ski/snowboard equipment to the hotel. The hotel's own onsen was very clean and more comfortable than the town's free onsens.
Yudanaka Onsen, Yamanouchi
A 5-minute walk from Yudanaka Train Station, Tawaraya offers Japanese-style accommodations with free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV. Guests can relax in the indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths and wear colorful Japanese Yukata robes. Massages can be requested for an extra cost.

The service as this Ryokan was 10/10, and was the most authentic one we stayed in during our 4 weeks in Japan.
The staff were so lovely, and spoke great English. They showed us to our room, and gave us essentially a "room tour" whilst we drank complimentary tea. They gave us a map with nearby restaurants and ammenties noted on it.
The private outdoor onsen was SO nice! You book a slot upon arrival, which you can access in the evening with 30 min slots. The onsen was large and the perfect contrast with the fresh cool air in the evening.
Yukatas were provided for us as an option to wear around the hotel - both my partner and I are bigger than the average Japanese person (Wife is plus size, I am 6ft 2) and we both comfortably fit into the ones picked out for us.
The only thing that threw us was that during breakfast, they cleared the beds from our room - had we known people would go in, we'd probably have neatened the room a bit haha!
P.S don't skip the sushi restaurant a few doors down from the hotel. The sushi was EXQUISITE and they even have a phonetic Japanese to English page at the front so you can have a go at ordering properly with the chef.
Shibu Onsen, Yamanouchi

The rooms feature heating facilities, tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon bedding. A fan, a TV and an electric kettle with green tea bags are included in each. Bathrooms and toilets are shared.
The location was beautiful during the winter and despite the heavy snow outside the rooms were warm and comfortable, the onsen was relaxing and it was a 5 minute walk to get to the bus stop to the ski resort.

Excellent ryokan with large rooms and service. Helpful staff, wonderful traditional breakfast and dinner. The ryokan has two onsens in different styles (modern and old) with indoors and outdoors springs. Traditional clothes are provided. Located relatively close to the Wild snow monkey park.
Yumoto-san has a very welcoming and lovely ryokan and we stayed in a traditional family room with shoji and tatami mats. We loved the ambiance, the view, and the onsen facilities. We also got a free lift to the snow monkey park. Great for families in a place full of character even if everything is a little dated.
A nice small ryokan run by a family. The onsen is a good size and there was a private one outside which you could use. They had kimono and yukata to use while you explored the onsen in the town. The rooms were very large and had en-suites. They had a coffee and hot water machine downstairs to use and lots of information about the area. There is free parking during your stay if you let them know in advance. The man who greets you is very friendly!
Beautiful boutique-feeling ryokan with really wonderful staff. We celebrated two birthdays and I was able to coordinate the delicious cakes over email. They even helped us take a photo and printed it out so we all had a little souvenir <3 So thoughtful! The rooms and building were lovely, as was the outdoor onsen. We did the private onsen experience too which was a little extra, but worth it especially to spend time with a partner. Food was tasty and yukatas were very pretty. Felt like a little dream.
I highly recommend this ryokan. Dinner and breakfast was amazing. Onsen experience with family was great. We arrived by car and Akira managed to provide a parking spot for us. The rooms were spacious and futons were comfortable for us. Heating system works great during our mid winter stay. Toiletries and yukatas were provided. While we were about to leave, he is assisting some guests to be dropped off at Snow Monkey Park which I think is great if you have no car.
The staff were superbly friendly while retaining the unique traditional ryokan atmosphere. The onsens were beautiful and entirely peaceful. Both the guest rooms and the dining rooms were beautiful tatami rooms that when paired with the yukatas really made you feel the atmosphere at its most. The shuttle bus service to the snow monkey park and train station was also incredibly helpful!
It is a ryokan, Japanese style hotel, just in the street a few hundred meters away from the Zenko-ji (temple). The house is very old. The room looks beautyful, beds, (futons), Japanese chairs and table. The breakfasts and dinners were traditional Japanese. Lovely taste and made with care. There was an onsen, Japanes hot spring bath in the house. The staff was so friendly. They came up to our room to collect us for the meals. We have breakfast and dinner in a original Japanese (dining)room.
traditional Japanse ryokan including onsen and sleeping on tatami floors and futon beds. staff is warm welcoming and willing to go the extra mile for you (gives a ride to entrance monkey park, source of great info)

Really enjoyed the traditional rooms (sleeping on futons) and the relaxed atmosphere in the ryokan. And not to forget: access to the 9 onsen baths as a guest of the ryokan.
