Tropea has amazing beaches, and it’s perfect if you’re a beach lover. The historic center is cute. They have a lot of restaurants. You can visit nearby Scila, take a day trip to the Aeolian Islands, or a 3 hour cruise to Capo Vaticano. La Conchiglia restaurant was very good, and if you don’t mind not staying exactly in the center, I recommend Residenze Ro.Ma. Great staff, very clean, great breakfasts

Amazing must see Calabria destination. Easy to drive to or take the train. Parking in the Centro Storico is challenging, but available. Every thing there is walkable. Amazing restaurants everywhere you look. Tons of nightlife and people watching, supplimented with awesome weekend free musical events to attend. The city is absolutely charming with lovely side streets, fascinating architecture everywhere you look, friendly people and extremly tourist friendly maps brochures and office available to help you find your way around.

We visited Tropea in the first half of April.
We visited Tropea in the first half of April. The weather was pleasant and the city wasn´t crowded. Many of the restaurants and bars were still closed before the real season start but there were still plenty of options. Parking wasn´t very easy (and I expect to get some fines in the upcoming weeks).

I was there out of season.
I was there out of season. Many restaurants in Tropea were shut but enough. More opened at the weekend.
Public transport seems limited to the trains. Tropes is on a branch line and at best the trains are every 2 hours. There are lots of beaches to explore.
Access to the hills. Would require some research.

The historic town is mostly pedestrianised or traffic restricted, and although heavily populated by tourists it is big enough not to be overwhelmed (at least that was the case in September). There is a lot of good historic architecture from a variety of periods, and many good restaurants. The beaches are not large, but are within walking distance of the town centre, but you need to be prepared for climbing lots of steps to get to them from the town.
Excellent location right in the middle of old Tropea village.
The hosts were so such a beautiful friendly and helpful family. Rosina prepared traditional Calabrian breakfast every morning it was fresh and, so beautiful with the most amazing views over the bay. We certainly did not need to eat lunch. Saverio and his younger brother, the hosts sons were on summer holiday and were helping out. he spoke great English and was very informative with the history of Tropea and just being so kind I would highly recommend for anyone to stay here.
Highly recommend Residenzia Magnolia! The stay was amazing mostly due to wonderful hosts. The hotel is located close to the sea - 5 minutes walk and just around the corner from the city center of Tropea. Breakfast is served on request - eggs, vegetables and mozzarella to die for. Fresh pastry to accompany your Coffee every day and of course the main star - homemade cakes - miss them already! Rooms are very clean and cosy. The hosts are the nicest people and very helpful even in the crisis situation. We’ll definitely be back!
The room had all the things thought out. The location was in a local neighborhood, but close to the center and with a delightful mini-mart across the street. The breakfast had local fruit, Tropea onions (in omelet and in jam), and 'nduja, of course. Was so nice, that I did a one-day retreat in the room during All Saints day to relax and recharge (with food the day before bought from the mini-market - a kind brother and sister run it). Mimmo's a few blocks down had really good gelato.
This was one of my favorite places to stay in Italy. The location is perfect, close to the beach and all the restaurants. It is walking distance to the train station. Claudia, the host is so helpful and accommodating. Breakfasts are simple yet delicious and as a celiac, I was made a special cake daily and offered extra treats/fruit etc. The rooms are large, clean and well equipped, they even provide an umbrella and beach towels! We really loved this accomodation.
The place is in an excellent location, close enough to the old town (you need to take stairs but at least you don't need to worry about driving through tight streets of old Tropea), there is a beautiful marina close by with restaurants and stores, the beach is few steps away. The apartment itself had everything you might need. It's cozy and comfortable, perfect for two couples or a family. The host was friendly and very helpful! I will definitely come back!
The location is simply perfect, it is just 4 minutes walking from the old city of Tropea, and this lets you sleep super comfy without any noise. Also, just 6 minutes walking they have a great parking spot where you can leave your car. Also, the room is really big and extremely clean, smelling so fresh and everything brand new. Not to mention, Antonio, that is a wonderful host, kind and professional.
Beautiful grounds and renovated historic building. Wherever you went on the property you felt like you were in a 5 star facility. The best breakfast I’ve ever had in a hotel. What put it over the top for me was the quality attention paid to guests by the staff. They were professional, courteous and very skilled in providing a top-drawer experience for guests. A great team!
This apartment is just wonderful. It’s very traditional and as such is older in terms of its decor but for us that didn’t matter one bit. It was perhaps the most functional apartment we stayed in, in all of Italy. It has everything you need and an extremely well stocked kitchen. Walking distance to everything. Amazing host. Just great! Thank you Ferdinando
So close to train station, almost no walk with bags. Also so close to centre--maybe 7 minutes. Everything is close in Tropea, so stay at a place like this one if you are not wanting to be right in the noisy touristic centre. Clean, ordered, and managed. The host family are also wonderful, and will help you to the best they can.
Tropea is a wonderful small town with beautiful historic buildings. The beach is clean and the colour of the water is turquoise. Breakfast had a great choice of foods. Hotel is very good, friendly staff and a great view on the beach. Room was comfy and the AC worked well.
Our host Mariano was exceptional, our room was clean, the a/c worked well, the bed was super comfortable and a fully cooked breakfast was a delightful surprise. The best breakfast we have had in Italy since arriving three weeks ago. Highly recommend. Thank you Mariano.
Giuseppe was the nicest host we've ever had and we has stayed in multiple places. He can advise places to see in Tropea and in whole Calabria. He also prepares amazing breakfast which is rare in Italy.
The hotel is beautiful, the staff is very polite and so so nice. Once I asked for a taxi to be called and they gave me a ride for free. The breakfast is amazing and the location is the best for Tropea.
Great hotel with everything you need to stay in Tropea. Right in the center of town and easy walk to the beach. Marie Antonietta is so lovely and made us feel right at home. Also exceptionally clean!
The location of the hotel is really good 5 min walking to the Tropea train station and Tropea centre. The room was clean and breakfast was also good. The hotel staff were nice and friendly.
Antonio’s friendliness & helpfulness made us feel very welcome. The room was very comfortable and the shower was the biggest & best so far in Italy with plenty of hot water.
The position and view is what makes this hotel. The staff are amazing and could not be more helpful. It is a small boutique hotel and is the perfect stay while in Tropea.
The host, staff and location were all outstanding. This is the absolute best place to stay in Tropea. Unreservedly highly recommend, Alessandro is a true class act.
